Camo hunting clothes have their place for bird hunting, but not needed for mulies in Arizona in cold weather. Get some wool pants that are quiet when walking through brush. They're better than any synthetics. Good flannel wool shirts and a jacket with a soft shell will work.

I live in a place where a bunch of people make livings by guiding big game hunters and I've noticed that they usually don't use clothing made specifically for hunting.

I have a bunch of Kuiu and Sitka stuff. Look at the Sitka Fanatic jacket, it has a goofy zipper but I really like the way it fits and works great when rifle or bow hunting and is warm and windproof. I wish they had a different camo pattern however.
This Warm. windproof and silent I actually like the camo pattern. It's more for the hunter than the animals anyhow

Columbia ski jacket and ski pants. Wear them to hunt and ski! I got the jacket and pants for $250. Going on three years now. I
only problem with this is noise. finding stuff that is quiet enough for hunting from a stand is tough.

Yep. I have a Sitka kelvin lite hoody and it's like wearing tissue paper.

Wore this quite a bit hunting JLAB in the 30's, but I'd be ****ed if it got wet

Didn't read the whole thread but Kuiu and Sitka have stores in Dallas now where you can actually try stuff on before buying.

Definitely have to wear a shell over the puffies. They aren't made for abuse, just a mid insulation layer.

And First Lite gear is apparently in store at Scheel's.

If you buy First Lite, do not buy the Seak rain jacket. It is a pile of ****… I'm a big First Lite homer but their rain jacket sucks.

I'm 29. And buying hunting clothes these days, I feel like I'm 98 years old trying to file my taxes online. It's just too much.

If you have a COSTCO near by they have Gerry waffle grid fleece hoody for $12. Black and Grey, I bought 3 yesterday because they are that good and that cheap.

It's basically the Patagonia R1 which retails for over $100 without a chest pocket.

I have one and I haven't had any issues with it. Thought they discontinued it anyway.

At any rate, it's my #3 option after my Simms jacket I wear for fishing and the newer Sitka jacket I grabbed this year.

No shortage of good advice here and also good companies making great hunting apparel, so I'll just give a +1 on getting good Merino base layers and taking care of your feet.

As I said, I love first lite stuff and have lots of it. But, a rain jacket shouldn't hold water like this one does. I mean the thing probably weighed 5lbs by the end of my hunt on Sunday it was holding so much water and I felt super damp.

I've sent then an email and warranty claim. We'll see what happens. Thinking about switching to Sitka or Kuiu for outer layers.

Can't say I remember anything about holding water. It could use a good wash, so I'll have to do that and see. Maybe weigh it before and after.

The pit zips are pretty clutch though.

Little follow up on this, got an email from First Lite saying that jacket has been discontinued and that they would like to refund me the full price on store credit to spend on other things.

Very impressed with that response from them.

I got some cheap thermajohn layers from Amazon before we went skiing in Montana. Pretty warm and comfortable for something cheap.

But it's funny to see this thread because I just had a conversation about all these brands with a couple guys at church. Spent way too much time looking at macks prairie wings site.

Yes, as a back up pair of waders. In fact, I think I still have a set. They'll keep you dry for one trip and possibly more. I don't think mine ever leaked.
