Looking for a Winter Park, CO fly fishing guide recommendation for a day of fly fishing sometime in July - September. Willing to drive ~2 hours max, but anything less would be great.

I fished with Kirk's Fly Shop out of Grand Lake. Had a great experience with them. Drove about an hour to the Colorado and put in at pump house. Slayed fish.

Appreciate the feedback but unfortunately that might be a little far. Shows about 2.5 hours one way to get to Estes. Dunno if I can stomach 5 hours on the road.

Give Tom Rushlow a call. He is excellent! Hour and a half from you in Vail.

You can pretty much fish the Fraser River by Devils Thumb is good. You can also go into Grand Lake and follow the Adam's Falls signs to park. From there you can walk into RMNP and fish in the creeks there.

Appreciate the insight but I don't live in the area, don't have gear, and am novice at best/with people that have never fished.

Really cool CO has all these public access opportunities though.

Wise choice here. From my experience with fishing up there, picking the right fly is more important than anything else and sometimes you just have to pay for that knowledge. You wouldn't think that the details on something the size of a grain of rice matter, but sometimes they will only eat the red one with the black stripes, not the basic red one or black one. Only local current knowledge will know this and it makes all the difference.

I don't have any guide recommendations for that area, sorry.

My family has a place in Winter Park and I have been out with Winter Park Fly Fisher on 10+ trips. Anything from public walk and wade fishing to an 8 hour float trip on the Colorado river. I would highly recommend them. The owner (Jeff) is a great guy and all the guides will work hard to get you on some fish!
