Duck decoy rigging question?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm putting together a decoy spread for the TX coast and putting them all on TX rigs. These will be normal sized teal, pintails, redheads, bluebill, etc. Hunting marsh and possibly open bay.

Looking for rigging advice on the following:

a. Preferred length (3', 3.5', 4')?
b. What size weights (4, 5, 6 oz)? The redheads I'm looking at are foam filled. Do these need heavier weights?
c. Best type of weight (barrel, bank, mushroom)?

Appreciate any input. Thx

I think I have 2 or 3 oz. fishing weights on Texas rig for the upper Laguna. They work and anything to lessen the decoy bag weight helps. They are set at 3'-3.5'.

I have about 3 dozen oversized redheads, Canvasbacks, and a few blue bills that are my exclusive coastal decoys. I'm running 48" with 4 or 5 oz on those.

All of my other decoys are 30" 3oz but most of the ponds I hunt are shallow

4oz unless you river hunt. Or big water with high winds all the time.

I dont know how deep the water is where you're hunting, but Texas rigs work better with shorter lines, i.e. 6 ft or less. If i'm rigging deep strings, I'll just do a regular rigs with strap weights.

Most of mine are in the 4ft range. I have no decoys just for one use though. They get used in rivers, lakes, and coast.

I use 4oz weights on most. I've got 6oz on my dozen over sized blue bills/red heads. Don't buy over size though. They just look silly and take up more space plus add the weight.

Rig 'em right makes a great setup…highly recommend.

3 ft is plenty, 4oz will do.

I guide duck hunts on the coast. My full size decoys are about 4ft with 5oz bank sinkers.

My teal and a handful of my smaller decoys are 3-4ft with 4oz bank sinkers.
