How long do you want to ignore this user?
I inherited a 1911 Winchester Model 90 pump 22 rifle. Brother says as far as he knows, longs are only ammo that have been shot out of it . It says on barrel, 22 longs. I have been searching for longs at Academy , Walmart and online. Not much luck. Any suggestions?

Been a while since I have bought any 22 long. CCI shows to still sell it.

Cool Gun by the way. I think I have some of that in an ammo can somewhere. I used to shoot it out of an old Winchester but it's been years.

Maybe I will have to dust that gun off.

one interesting thing about the older gallery guns is a lot of them are specific to only one of those. Generally any non semi that is chambered for LR can shoot L and S, similar to a .357/.38 revolver. But that's not the case for some of these older Winchesters. It sounds like his is specific to L. Odd. Both of mine can shoot all three, but different model number.

This would be a first, for me, to see a rifle chambered in "22 Long" (which is a 22 Long rifle case, with a 22 Short bullet).

Try 22 long, 22 short, 22 long cb and 22 short cb. All are safe to try in a slide action rifle. They would all cycle in a Remington Model 12 and they are worth a try in the old Winchester. CCI still offers all of them.

You can see if a 22lr will chamber but it is unlikely if it is marked long.

I have a Remington auto, tube fed, that is marked for short, long, and long rifle. I unfortunately shot it so much one time that that front sight fell off the barrel. Need to put it back on.

The case is the same, the Long Rifle bullet is longer.

OP I have one CCI sleeve of them. If you have trouble locating any you are more than welcome to these. I'm in Bell County.

Sorry to hijack the thread but what model 22 pump would you recommend to look out for. My dad mentioned he wanted one the other day so I am going to be on the lookout.

Thank you!! I'll see if I can find some local or mail order. I'm in Smith county.
As a kid, we had 22 auto that shot all three, but we were partial to longs and LR. I just want to be careful with this one. Just wonder if they made LR in 1911?

I learned something today. Never knew .22 long was different from .22 LR. Have several really old .22 rifles in my safe, better check to see what they shoot!

They did make the 22lr in 1911. They were all just a development on each other as we ventured out of the black powder days.

.22 short- 1857
.22 long- 1871
.22 LR- 1887

There were others too that are long since discontinued.

I have a WInchester 1908 made in 1910 that is S-L-and LR. In fact it is actually spelled out on the barrel, something kind of unique.

I wish shorts were still a thing. I shot buckets of them as a kid. Loved filling a tube of them in my pump and letting her rip. I know they still make them, but they are more expensive.

Cool looking rifle, btw.

Shorts are fun. We used to shoot them a lot with the kids.

Over Christmas we are going to see my SIL and her 9 year old daughter and will shoot shorts with her. I have one sleeve of them with her name on it.
