My mom has expressed interest in getting a 4 - 8 qt Cajun roaster for her Christmas present.

Does anyone have any experience with these and where to find them? I read they stopped making them a few years ago.

Are there any good substitutes if we can't find one?

TIA

I cook with my grandmas all the time. It doesnt cook as well as cast iron but it does pretty dang well. Easier to clean and light weight. The larger size can fit across two burners on the stove. The oval shape allows for cooking odd shaped items that might not fit in a regular round pot. Ebay has a ton of them but prices do look to be up.

A gravy made with the HEB pork shoulders that were on sale. Served on white rice with collard greens and corn bread.

Yes, there are some good cast aluminum substitutes, and some not so good. Can't recall the brands right off tho, sorry. You can often find original magnalite stuff at estate sales, etc.

It's good cookware but avoid acid foods, such as tomatoes, etc., and the dishwasher. Will discolor the pot.

Bought my mom a Cajun Cookware brand aluminum pot for Christmas. She wanted something like magnalite. No experience with it though.

My wife has the enameled cast iron and it is our go to pot as it goes from cooktop to oven.

Only downside is you have to be careful with metal utensils. We use the Silicon spoons with them.

Le Crueset is another brand, but way more expensive..
