I've run out of presents for my pops. Id like to get him a high quality knife for deer hunting that he could pass down to his grandkids. Any advice would be appreciated (price less than 500.00). Again thank you.

Get him the knife & you'll never run out of gift ideas again.

I have several bark river knives and they have worked really well for me. I know they are not true custom knives but they look great and work really well.

Knives of Alaska

I find them to be an excellent knife at good price points for what you are getting.

I have an outdoor edge. i personally don't like it all that much.

Factory fixed blade: Bökker/Arbolito/Tree Brand makes a really nice fixed blade knife I use when hunting. Great steel.

Factory folding knife: Eye Brand/Carl Schlieper carbon steel blade

Custom: Diamond M Knives is an Ag that posts in the OB or Davey Patterson, waiting for a knife from Davey for my old man for his birthday. (He is also an awesome sketch artist that does custom sketches for people as well. It's super cool stuff.)

Can't go wrong with Bark River Knives, they have one of the best reputations in the business, and a genuine cult following. Here's a link to one of their retailers - scroll down to Classic Drop Point Hunter (if he's a deer hunter) or check out any of the others.

Benchmade saddle mountain skinner has held up well. Good balance and stays sharp thru use.
