They were selling frozen turkeys for $0.58 cents a pound before Thanksgiving. If that didn't move the needle, you might wait until after Christmas when they really want to get rid of them.

Wow. That price definitely moved my needle but I did not see that before thanksgiving and it is 2.38 now a pound at HEB

1.98 a pound at my store in Round Rock. But we always go with the pre Tday special of buy a ham and get a free turkey. Cooked the turkey yesterday and will do the ham Christmas.

Wait until after new years and they'll start moving them and the hams. They had coupons by the hams this year where I got a bone in ham for like $6. It was insane. Didn't go look at the turkeys since I had the one work gave me for Thanksgiving in the freezer.

Don't know what kind of smoker you have but my $.02 on how to prepare and smoke is to prepare it like you're going to fry it. If you haven't fried one before get the Tony Chachere's butter injector and inject all of the meat. Then use the Tony Chachere's seasoning as a rub. Actually before injecting or seasoning it spatchcock it so that it lays flat on the grate. Smoke it at 275 for about 3 hours basting it with butter once an hour. I've done this three years in a row and literally everyone in my family says it's the best turkey they've ever had. I've fried a bunch of them and we all like that too but this is fantastic.

This. You won't regret it
My only difference is to brine it for at least 24 hours and put it in one of those large foil pans.

I spatchcock-ed and brined for 8 hours or so, smoked it w hickory on the pellet grill this year. I don't love turkey but it turned out really good and was a big hit amongst the 2 or 3 traditional oven baked ones.

Go for it. Get it to 165 degrees internal.
I don't think you know me.

I've used the Tony C butter injection for the last three birds and it is great. Family says it's the juiciest bird I've cooked.

I've got 4 in the freezer got free from Kroger! They had a deal for a free turkey with $125 purchase. I hit that easily on my weekly grocery trip so I loaded up!

The week before Thanksgiving my HEB had turkeys for 45 cents a pound if you bought over a certain dollar amount of groceries($20 or $50, cant remember). All were tagged $2 a pound, there was a paper sign with this deal. Not sure if it was in the weekly add or not. I was just cheking to see what they were going for and saw the deal.
