This is off TPWD website for Austin County regarding shooting antlerless deer.

"Antlerless Deer: Antlerless deer may be taken by hunting license tag during archery, muzzleloader, and youth-only seasons, except on properties where antlerless MLDP tags have been issued then take is by MLDP tag only. Antlerless deer may also be taken by hunting license tags during designated periods in the General Season, see General Season section below for specific dates."

I am reading that as the only time a doe can not be harvested is during the general season, besides the 4 days during thanksgiving. Any thoughts on this? With muzzleloader and youth season opening up, I am curious if you can legally harvest a doe.

I read it as Antlerless may be taken during muzzle loader season unless you have an MLD permit. Then you have to use MLD tag.

Same regs are in place in one of the counties I hunt in. Yes, you are correct; you can legally take a doe during muzzleloader season. If you archery hunt, same there. Otherwise there are designated "doe days" during the general season.

I have a CVA Accura LX so possibly a different primer setup. I'm a newbie with ML but thought that Blackhorn 209 requires a 209 primer regardless of the ML setup. Now I'm curious what type of primer the Remington system uses

Remington UML uses a cut .308 casing with a Large Rifle Magnum Primers, not 209's. Works excellently well with BH209 powder.

I missed this when the thread was active. If you are using BH209, you'd be well advised to replace the factory breech plug with the Arrowhead breech plug. The Rem UML depends on a crush fit for proper seal between the plug nipple and the primer flash hole. Any variations in the thickness between case head and flash hole or primer pockets being off center will cause some gas to leak around the mating of flash hole and nipple. If you are seeing any black streaks inside the Rem cut cases or carbon buildup on the plug nipple, then you are getting leakage. Brass cases are not held to precise dimensions in this area, and this is essential for proper headspace. BH209 burns hotter at higher pressure than 777 pellets, so over time, BH209 will flame cut grooves on the tip of the factory breech plug. The severity and speed that this occurs depends on how much leakage you're getting with your brass. Once the tip of the UML factory plug gets flame cut, you no longer have any seal at all and it gets progressively worse.

The Arrowhead system doesn't have this issue because the projection on their primer modules always completely seals inside their breech plug pocket.

This isn't my photo; it is an example I found online, but here is what the factory UML breech nipple looks like when gas cut from repeated BH209 usage:

I couldn't find any 209. Currently using 777 magnum with decent results.

But was planning on switching to 209 and Arrowhead breach plug next season.

If you're anywhere near D/FW, Scheels in The Colony has a lot of BH209 in stock. I just picked some up a few minutes ago.

Thanks. I saw it on their website. I'll have to grab some next time I'm in the area.

You are going to really like the 700 UML. I bought one a few years back and had some upgrades done to it (trigger job, muzzle brake, cerakote). It shoots lights out! I'd recommend you consider a muzzle brake for sure. It only kicks like one mule now instead of two.

Well first Muzzie kill. Wild when you shoot and can't see anything for a few seconds. By the time the smoke cleared the animal was gone.

Nice. I'm holding out for a buck until this weekend. Watched a doe and two yearlings tonight. Cold as hell in the stand but loved being out in the snow

I was too. This was right at dark my last day. Hopefully I can go once more. Wind was crazy and bucks never showed.

my bucks show only when I'm not there. Also, I love that wall of smoke when you fire - something primitive about shooting this gun that I love. I hope I'm not being too hard headed holding out because I have had does and spikes in my sights that won't show on Sunday
