Finally getting some movement. Grimes county. Killed probably 50 wasps. If I shoot the rifle as good as the wasp spray we are going hungry.

On the board. Lugged the 10/22 up with me tonight. Popped a coon at 100 shooting subsonic & suppressed.

Now hoping the 7pt cull comes back through on his way to bed.

This fella hung out for a while tonight. Also watched a badger for a few minutes which was fun.

He'd be hanging out on a skinning rack if he showed up on my place.

Quiet night. My son has buck fever and refuses to shoot anything that will not go in the book thanks to his friend who did shoot a 170 plus deer last weekend(low fence long story)

Unfortunately my generator that has ten total hours on it failed so I am at the Super 8 in Giddings with my son. Have not spotted GiddingsAg yet. I am assuming he is not shooting something.

Way too close to camp and where my boy was digging dirt. Perfect temps for them to come out and move a bit

An old high school friend of mine made a post yesterday asking when the time changed so he could make sure and change his feeders at the right time so that his feed times weren't messed up this morning. I wish he was trolling but he definitely wasn't.

This conversation drives me nuts each year. Not a hard concept people. The sun doesn't come up an hour earlier overnight. Base your feed times on sunrise and sunset.

And yet my best friend has already text me this morning about changing the time on his feeder and he accidentally turned the feed duration to 1 second

Worked all mid day hit a tripod sit for the PM

Beautiful morning in the stand. Quieter today(for me at least). Both my daughters went hunting with Grandpa this morning.
A few deer moving, Grandpa and the kids had another 8 pointer at their feeder this morning.

We just had a nice shooter come in. He hung around for a bit but we spooked him before i could draw my bow.

But, that's two mature shooter bucks on the weekend my 7 year old son has gotten to watch from 15-20 yards away. Pretty dang cool for his first weekend bow hunting.

My 12 yo son just let this guy walk.

He is either 2.5 or 3.5.

Talked about it. That's a last chance to hunt for the year and still need some meat buck. Nothing wrong with shooting him but maybe not today.

We saw a big old bruiser yesterday and a unicorn spike. Wants one of tbose

Edit to add-I'm guessing he is 3.5. A younger one just walked by that was skinnier that had to be 2.5. Aging deer is tricky.

Last year we lost almost our entire fawn crop. I think it was a combination of drought, coyotes, and a bad buck/doe ratio. We also do not feed but are on the Colorado river. But I mean we saw probably 60 individual deer last season and two fawns.

Fast forward to this year and we had a bumper crop of fawns. Which is great. Several sets of twins and other than one missing an ear everyone was healthy.

But there were almost zero 1.5 year olds of course. We had one unicorn spike and maybe one or two yearling doe and that's it. All of the deer in the doe herds were either mature breeding doe or little fawns. I probably saw 60 individual deer and two 1.5 yo deer. Usually we get to watch a bunch of young four points play grab ass all day but nothing.

My uncle and I made the decision today to not let the kids shoot a maturing buck and just shoot three doe over thanksgiving. We will hunt next weekend but unless we see the unicorn or an obvious cull we won't shoot.

I don't do or really care much for people who think they can manage a low fence herd, but we are isolated by the river and other than the land that's leased next to us don't have a ton of pressure. It's probably the best thing to do.

Edit to add-Fayette County 20 miles from Giddings

As the days get shorter feed times get closer and closer to dark so may be worth adjusting 30min or so if you wanna give yourself a little more light before feeders go off.

Or she is going to be 14 and setting records up in your neck of the woods.

Did you see the deer that girl shot out at the Red River Army Depot. It is going to score in the 230 range. Totally awesome!!!

Yeah, that was a monster. Very unusual for this part of the country. She had a proud papa.

I've hunted that area. Have seen some non-typical but that one was in a world of his own.

Kimble County with my oldest daughter. Had some fallow come through we'd never seen, but she has now seen as many free ranging fallow as me. As a positive, my wife was happy I was able to find a way to get her to take a nap.
