Getting an AR built but can't decide if I want a 300HAM'R or a 300BLK.

Y'all got any pros or cons or just general thoughts on the two before I "pull the trigger" and get it going?

What are you going to use it for?

Best advice I have is consider your use case, desired range, cost of ammo/components and figure out what works best for what you intend to use it for.

I like 300blk but that doesnt mean you have to buy one.

Big fan of 300 Hamr. Very accurate. Fun to shoot.
Lots of folks love it for hogs in an AR. But ammo is high and relatively unavailable. Wilson is basically an ammo manufacturer so they always have some plus the Sig ammo is around. My local gun store keeps it. You'll probably like it.

Mainly pig hunting

Perfect. I was mainly wanting it for pig. My local gun shop also keeps it in stock.

Is that top one an integrated suppressor?

I don't think I have ever noticed 300HAM'R in a say an academy or even at the local gun shop. That would definitely sway my decision

I use a 300 BLK. Exclusively use for pig hunting. Have shot a decent amount of pigs with it this year and only have had one not DRT. He made it 30 yds, shot from 100+ out of an 8" barrel.

Plus I can get 110 vmax for .60/rd vs prob $2/rd for hammr

My local gun shop has a wilson combat 300hamr right now on their shelf with plenty of rounds to go with it. I walked in asking them about getting a 300blk built and they pointed me towards the 300hamr and it got me debating which one I wanted to get built. Figured I'd come on here and ask for y'all's opinion.

300blk is a lot cheaper. Like said above $0.60/# for vmax. Getting close to 223 prices.

I went 300 BO personally, my experience with ammo availability is just mine, your mileage may vary, if your local shop keeps it all the better

I would go .300 BO for one reason only and that is future ammo availability. I would not assume that WIlson will always and forever make ammo for it. See .270 WSM, .300 RUM, etc. etc. .300 Blackout is here to stay.

If I had to guess of all of the centerfire cartridges designed in the history of the world, more than half of them have been introduced in the last 20 years. Less than 10 will survive.

This is not the same as shooting a cartridge like, say, .300 Savage. That's a cartridge that was at one time established and is now obsolete but because there are millions of rifles someone will always make ammo for it. That wont happen for a lot of these rounds.

ALL that being said, the .300 BO is here to stay I think .

I have a .300 Blk. I love it. I call it my American Express Card…. Never leave home without it. I have shot numerous deer and every one I ever pointed it at died in sight. It's great for hogs as my gun is light, handy and accurate when you get into a group of them. I reload so I am almost unlimited to ammo. All that being said.. if I had it to do over again, I would get the hamr. I never ended up getting the suppressor I planned so all my ammo is supersonic. Mostly 125 and 130 grain bullets. The hamr beats the Blk in this scenario by a large margin.

They have it sitting around for a reason. 300 blk all day except Sunday. Sunny, perfect temp, Sundays in the spring when you break out the old classic mint condition convertible that otherwise is just sitting around.

Using you for scale, looks like you are exclusively shooting piglets. Does the round work on anything that's been weaned?

I love it. For what I use it for I have no complaints. Only thing I'd change if I could go back in time is probably go w/ the 35mm objective instead of 25

No. MCX, 6.75" barrel and a suppressor tucked under a SD rail

If 300 hamr ever goes away, all you need is a 556 or 300 blk barrel swap and you're back in business. Very low risk if you like it. But its not cheap. I've seen sig ammo for 17.99/20. Wilson does some deals too.

That's a good point. Didn't think about that.

Not quite the same risk as a Model 70 in .270 WSM.
