Outdoor Gods - Whats the best way to have composite rifle stocks painted? I have a couple of Christensen Arms rifles. I love the carbon barrel, but the splatter paint scheme on the stock is not necessarily my style. I'm not sure this is something I want to take on myself. Is there a recommendation on where to take these to get painted? Thanks in advance…

Spray paint and be done

Consider having the dipped instead, or do the dipping yourself. Plenty of camo options available on Amazon and you can do it yourself if you are the least bit a DIYer.

Barreled action, swing studs, bottom metal out.

Tape off the recoil pad. Or remove.

Spray paint. Rustoleum makes some great earth tone paints.

multiple light coats. Let it dry. Reinstall action. Hunt.

I am not a very good spray painter. Rather poor in fact. It seems I lack the "touch," typically applying the spray too heavily and getting runs.

However, I have painted several rifle stocks with DuraCoat, and it always gives me very nice results! The stuff is very self-leveling and dries quickly, so it's extremely easy to apply even coats without runs. They even have it available in spray cans so you don't need a spray rig to apply it. It also doesn't require any heat to cure, a good thing with synthetic stocks.

DuraCoat is a 2-part catalyzed polyurethane, similar to Polane or automotive finishes. It is very tough/resilient, long-wearing, and doesn't tend to chip.

The company that sells it (used to be called Lauer Custom Weaponry) also has various "peel and stick" camo pattern masks that are easy to use. I've used the digital camo masks a lot. They have a primer, a HUGE selection of colors, and clear coats in flat, satin, and gloss. They also have versions with extra UV resistance. It is an outstanding, easy to apply finish that isn't as demanding to apply as Cerakote.

Trust me; it's very easy to do yourself. If I can do it and get professional looking results, anyone can.

Edit: the only downside to it is it's pretty expensive, but you don't need much of it, and high tech polyurethane finishes are just expensive. But, it costs less than if you had someone else paint the stock for you.

Spray paint and some sponges have always worked for me, takes all of 15 minutes.
