Made my first trip to AF in July and really enjoyed it

Ready to pick the fly rod back up, since it's only a 5 hour drive from here.

there is good water throughout Cimarron State Park downstream from The Holy Water to where the river crosses under the road at the east entrance of the park.

Also this is the best time to fish the Rio Grande Gorge out of Taos. Bring a headlamp and don't wait too long to start the hike out.

Can you make it out west to Navajo Dam?
That's an awesome piece of water.

Head up to the Costilla. It's about an hour north of Taos. I was there a month ago. Great trip.

I'm not much of a fisherman, and no sort of fly fisherman, and even I can't wait to see the Costilla River and the Valle Vidal for the next time.

It is still pretty but you don't want to try to fish the Valle Vidal or lower stretch of the Rio Costilla this late in the year. The steam flow out of the lake on Vermejo Park Ranch is controlled by irrigation demands. it shuts down to a trickle after September.

Fished with Doc yesterday

I was in Costilla, NM a few weeks ago elk hunting and we got into a mess of trout in the Rio Costilla. Couldn't cast without pulling a trout out.

i should have asked who you were fishing with.

i could have given you some embarrassing stories about him that would have helped liven up the day.
