I am in Midland to see today's solar eclipse. Weather looks clear. Will be over in time to watch the Tennessee game.

(Use eclipse glasses and don't point a digital camera or cell phone camera without a filter directly at the sun.)

I thought it looked weirdly dark outside for no clouds in the sky. Then realized there was an eclipse. Haha. Thought my eyes were failing me

I noticed the tree shadows looked strange like that. Pretty neat.

I'm in Beaumont. I Looked outside and it was just dimmer than normal, but not drastically. Took a second to remember the eclipse. It was sort of like the difference between being outside with and without sunglasses on(I didn't have sunglasses on).

Taken in Rockport. Photos don't do it justice, it was so beautiful in person!

I noticed the weird tree/leaf shadows as well. And the water rippling in our pool looked trippy too.

I tried to take photos with my phone through the eclipse glasses, but they didn't turn out well.

There must be a different wave length of light from the edge of the sun. Yes it was dim, but not like when three is a cloud over the sun. The light seemed like it was a different color

Well, a cloud only blocks the little area it casts a shadow and you still get plenty off radiating light all around that.

The moon is blocking the sun from an exponentially larger portion of the earth than a regional cloud.

It almost seemed like a sort of blueish tint to the sunlight during the eclipse.

PSA don't use binos to look at solar eclipses.

I stepped outside in Houston at 11:45AM and immediately thought of what the LCD TV looks like when I turn down the backlight.

Was in Albuquerque this morning (by chance) which was supposed to be one of the prime spots but found it disappointing. Was in South Carolina in 2017 and was in perfect spot for the total eclipse which was spectacular so maybe my point of reference is just different.

This was different than 2017. Annular vs total. The moon is farther away from the earth for an annular, so you get the ring of fire but not the darkness. Total the moon is closer and you get the darkness.

Next April 8th is a total eclipse and it cuts across Texas. Trying to get back during it to watch.

Yes, I know about and realize the difference. It's just that after seeing a total eclipse, the annular doesn't have the same wow factor.

We were planning to go to Garner State Park and had a day pass reserved, but when it was apparent that there was a significant cloud deck down that way, we called an audible and stopped on the side of 83 about 20 miles south of Junction. Took these with a 18 stop ND filter on a DSLR with a 400mm lens. Came out pretty well I thought.

I was in the front yard watching it with my neighbors and started trying to get a pic through a welding lens but it wasn't working. Told the neighbors "ah if i want a picture of it i can just get one off the internet"
Nice pics guys!

Dude, what were you thinking! A binoc or a camera lens increases the light hitting your eye. You're lucky it only melted the cheap sunglasses.

For the next eclipse, please use a set up like this:

https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/binoculars-telescope-projector.html

I did this in 2012, and while my version was ugly as sin, it worked.

I think I shared the photos at the time, but I'll add my favorite again. Had to go to a NM State Park south of Clovis to get under the path. It was near sunset local time, and wildfires in Arizona had put a ton of dust in the air. Made for a memorable sight.

I was on a hike on the Fourth of July trail yesterday which was beautiful red and crimson leaves. I took the eclipse glass, unable to take a decent pic with my cell phone.

We sang along with Johnny Cash 'Ring of Fire'
