My pooch has swelling on one side of his face and most pronounced around his eye. Progressively gotten worse over the last few days to where the eye is almost swollen shut. Can't find anything wrong. Gave benedryl on night 1 and 2 with no improvement. I'm thinking he might have a tooth infection. Tooth, or otherwise, I'm pretty sure it's infection related, making a vet appointment tomorrow, but wandering if they can take human antibiotics? Any other home remedies to start giving him relief today until we can get him in?

Not a vet.

I would not give human antibiotics, in general to a dog unless I knew specifically what they were and the dosing regimen. There are quite a few that are the same but lots that are very different.

If you've only given him Benadryl twice I'd start giving that more frequently. 3 times a day at 1mg/kg but probably wouldn't exceed 300 mg a day.

Antibiotics (or any drug) aren't "human" and "dog", they are just antibiotics. You can actually have veterinary scripts filled at CVS. I once took "fish" amoxicillin that I bought off Amazon for a toothache. In saying this, there are some drugs that have bad side effects in some species but are perfectly safe for other species. Ibuprofen, for example, should not be given to dogs.

That said, I doubt any vet is going to recommend giving antibiotics over a message board but even those that might aren't going to without knowing what antibiotic you're considering.

Fair point…I have clindamycin and amoxicillin, of the two, was thinking clindamycin would be more appropriate

Yes, clindamycin. Find dosing (based on weight) on line.
