Is anyone else having problems with woodpeckers attacking their game cams, poking holes in the smoked plastic sensor covers? If so, any ideas on how to stop this from happening?

I have been having this happen to at least half my cameras! The woodpeckers are attracted to or annoyed by the curved shiny plastic for some reason, and they peck at it and puncture holes.

A brand new Tactacam X Pro. It's been happening to two other buddies of mine on the same lease.

Go buy a rubber snake at Dollar General and coil him up or staple to tree. It worked when the woodpeckers liked my decorative, rustic posts on my front porch.

Maybe glue a square of hardware cloth over it?

Would that interfere with IR sensor function?

Maybe but not as bad as woodpecker damage. Worth a try. Make it easy to peel if results don't work?
I think being fixed it might not interfere with sensor that detects changes?

I guess you're right. Woodpecker damage certainly can't be enhancing IR function. And maybe it will reduce the reflection of the surface or whatever it is about the appearance of that window that makes them want to peck at it to begin with.

Has anyone else seen this issue before?

I had a bullet hole thru one that was set up to watch a trough where "coyotes" and their cargo stopped to water on Friday and Saturday nights. Did more than mess up IR lens.
