After 16 minutes of negotiations and the use of a 40-millimeter launcher projectile, a less lethal form of gaining compliance, Chronister says the teen was taken into custody

I don't know why you are laughing. You shouldn't be. What a terrible and tragic situation for literally everyone involved.

The phrasing is funny out of context. It's ok to laugh at Inappropriate things. The world is a ****ty place full of misery and suffering. Laugh at whatever you can.

obviously a bad / sad situation. if lethal is death, what is "a less lethal" form of death. just funny how it was written and how a journalist was describing it.

Less lethal is not lethal. The term is meant for use of force not intended as deadly force like tasers or beanbag rounds from shotguns.

The article is likely referring to a rubber bullet/beanbag/CS gas projectile launched from a 40mm tube.

Hopefully that clears it up and puts and end to any fun you might've been having.

More often than not, people who laugh at other people's misfortunes have either ASPDs or are mouth breathing stupid.

Or both.

I'd wager that, if we could know the whole situation, we'd nearly all agree that this was self defense. But we won't ever know it.

There's a lot of terrible situations out there. I hope some folks are able to find some peace around this one.

less lethal has been a term for 20+ yrs….. Its not like they just made up a term for the article

Reading the article, I have a lot of questions - but I agree, we won't find out the truth.

Was the boy trying to defend his mother by shooting the boyfriend, then the mother stepped in to stop him, shot by accident? Were they beating him? Was he just evil?

Many, many ways this could have played out.

This kids life is over as he knows it. Unfortunately it might be 20-30 years before he realizes it fully, if ever.

I used the 40mm back in the day when I was in corrections, its kind of anticlimactic actually.

Edit: There is no such thing as "non-lethal" in dealing with projectiles coming out of the end of a tube under pressure. You can kill someone with the bean bag rounds, or rubber bullets, if it hits them right, or wrong depending on your perspective. The term to use is, less lethal.

It sounds like the son was trying to protect mom from an abusive "Florida man" boyfriend and she got shot.
