I want to take a client fishing that is based out of three rivers, I'll be coming from Houston

We have decided on Laguna Madre

I am thinking October or November of this year and it will likely be the middle of the week to avoid crowds

I am thinking Port Mansfield

Any guide suggestions or other advice is appreciated

I've fished with Rene Hinojosa and Jeff Neu out of Port Mansfield. Rene can definitely put you on fish and he will work hard to do it. Jeff is good as well, but it's been a few years and I'm not 100% sure he's still active.

I think they both may be artificial only, which is my game.

Phone numbers I have:

Rene Hinojosa
(979) 942-0164

Jeff Neu
(979) 942-0164

Edit: bait

Are Janie and Freddy Petty still guiding out of Lower Laguna? I would recommend them big time, but it has been 10 years since I've fished with them. They will put you on the reds (including some big bulls if they spot a herd, which they usually do). When you've got your box full, they'll put you on the trout at the IC. Usually hook up some jacks and an occasional tarpon. They are just a bit further down south from Port Mansfield out of Laguna Vista / Port Isabel.

I found their name in an old Texags thread from 2012 before I posted this.

Their website doesn't work anymore and I couldn't find any good information on google.

If you want to go fly fishing for big reds in skinny water then call up Ben Paschal. He's a good Ag and excellent guide.

About the last time I used or recommended them. I don't see anything recent on the Intertron about them either. They lived pretty hard, so may not be around anymore.

Fly or traditional tackle?

I spent a week fishing out of Rio Hondo/Arroyo city in July. PM is a great fishery too, I mean it's all a giant hypersaline lagoon connected by the ICW.

For Areoyo City:

Fly - Capt John Pilmer.

Traditional - Capt Ernesto Cicneros.

Both of these guides are very experienced, excellent at finding fish, and will teach you some of their craft if you want to learn. Ernesto will fish from boat or wade. Pilmer fishes from a new water stilt poling skiff.

Let me know of you can't find them online and need their numbers. I can also give you more details on both of you'd like.

See my post above. Ernesto will put you on the trout, reds, and also snook if you want to target them specifically.

His cell is (956) 266-6454.

Todd with Fairwater Charters. (361) 772-5312

I've fished and hunted with him several times. Good guy and laid back. He might be moving to duck season for him, but he does both.

Rene, Jeff, & Ernest are all solid. Fished and hunted with them all. Jeff has been catching some massive snook lately.

Charlie Buchen will put you on fish too, but people seem to have strong opinions on him- one way or the other, but would recommend him for a day trip if you can book him. You can find his contact info online- Tail Chaser Charters.

All of these guides could work out a cast and blast for you if you're interested.

Pilmer May be an Ag.

I hope the OP had a good trip whoever he chose as this is an old thread - but for future reference: you are correct: Pilmer is an Ag, an old animal science guy and a fun dude to fish with.

. That is who I thought it was. Worked with him many years ago. Very smart and very funny. Fished all the time in west Texas until he moved to Houston and got turned on to salt water fishing

Bumping this for some needed help.

The family is planning a sudden trip to South Padre Island at the end of the month, and I'm looking to see if you guys have any recommendations for outfitters out of SPI (we'll be staying on the island). Would love to fish LLM, versus open water. The kids might come with, in which case we'll need a decent sized boat, otherwise it'll just be me and the wife. If it's just the two of us, we'd be open to trying our hand at fly-fishing (me with some experience, her with none).

I know it's a little last minute, but at least it'll give me a place to start with guides. TIA!
