Ha ha I like that one but I always thought it was kind of odd… like he really had a beef with some dude named Walter. Just the way he said the name Walter sounded like it was personal.

That is because Walter is the name for a boring person (no offense to any Walters here)

Here's another one that is lesser-known, but one of my favorites. This is "It's only the blues" from Bandera. I don't have the liner notes with me, but I believe Lloyd Maines did the slide guitar on this (he co-produced the album). Charlie's singing and lyrics with the slide guitar make this a great song.

Don't blame it on the wind just because this time it ain't behind you
It ain't some kind of karma paying back its dues
It ain't that God ain't been able to find you
Don't worry darlin', it's only the blues.

Thanks for sharing. Edit to say I just finished listening to the whole video and the cover of Stars on the Water is my favorite song on there.

One of my wife's co-workers shared this photo she took of Charlie. Back in his prime.

That is an awesome photo! He was so real and raw.

This is my wife and another friend singing the wedding song duet with him. Always a fun show.

Getting a decent hour long rain here in Central TX. This song hasn't been mentioned but this line immediately came to my head….

"But the raaaaaaiiiinn on the roof sounds so pretty…"

Good song

His statement from 2018 seems appropriate now as well:
Quote:

Hey amigos, Charlie here. I'm sure you've all been wondering where I've been. Well, at the beginning of this year I underwent a surgical procedure that because of complications left me with the permanent inability to sing. Therefore, with a very heavy heart I am officially retiring from the the stage and studio. Gonna keep it short but just wanted y'all to hear it from me. It's been an amazing ride and I cannot tell you all what the last 25 years has meant to me. I was looking forward to another 25 but as they say "**** happens". I thank you all for everything you've given me and I hope I was able to give you a fraction of the happiness you gave me. It was a hell of a ride but as they say all good things must end. Keep on supporting this thing we call Texas/Red dirt and hopefully we'll all get to have a cocktail or two and talk about the good ol days. Until then,Buenos Noches. It's been fun. Love each and every one of y'all.

On the one hand, an awesome tribute and a ton of photos. That's a lot to go through in the days following the loss of your dad. I hope his family is able have hope and find peace.

On the other, man, divorce sucks. Almost no family pictures with Emily and the kids, in a montage filled with family. Almost a decade edited out.

Yeah, I have unintentionally dedicated this week to drinking beer and watching CR videos

He was certainly the artist that I have seen most in concert.

My wife lived near the firehouse saloon in Houston when we got together, and I saw him there I think 3 times

We have been married almost 20 years and seen him a few times. We used it as reason to get away for the weekend and have the grandparents watch the kids.

We went to Floore's, Billy Bob's, and Gruene Hall that I recall

I noticed the same thing. Only saw one picture of Emily with their newborn.

I believe the same is true about Kelly Willis (His brother's ex). They were married a LONG time and I only saw her in one with her own newborn. Not that it was about Bruce and Kelly.

me as well. Never met him once, however he and his music played a big part of my life growing up. Saw numerous shows and it seems like looking back on memories I have from high school most seem to involve his music.

RIP Firehouse, Blanco's and Wild West. Practically lived at those places in my 20s.

Was looking forward to seeing him tomorrow night at the Washington Co Fair but he had canceled because of the surgery he was undergoing at the time of his passing.

RIP Charlie.

He lived in the Alamo Heights area the last decade or so. For a while he had a house in Olmos Park, then in Northwood (SA), and I think he lived in Terrell Hills mostly recently. We live in the area so we would occasionally see him around. One time my wife had to do a double take of a golf cart pulling a guy on a skateboard. It was Charlie and Bruce screwing around

Occasionally I would cut through Olmos Park and Olmos Basin Park on my way home from work. It is a little more leisurely drive than Broadway. It took me past the Alamo Heights baseball field. Back when Gus was playing baseball I would often see Gus and Charlie out there with a bucket of balls - Gus pitching and Charlie catching for him. More than once I wanted to stop and say hello, but I always told myself, "Let him just be a dad."

Last football season Henry was a senior on the Alamo Heights football team. Deep snapper and tight end. Little did we know Charlie's season tickets were almost right next to us. I would not have recognized him except my wife recognized Kristen. Some thing - I wanted to say hello, but he was just being a dad.

Glad he got to see most of his kids grow up. Sorry he died when his youngest is still so young.

I introduced my 15 year old son to his music last night while we watched the Astros crap the bed. And I had sipped on three beers after twirling my wife around the kitchen for a song.

This is dumb, but I still laughed. I am guessing every dude with a guitar has done a few of Charlie's songs this week.
