Reading that he passed. Favorite songs? Here is mine.

If true, that's a HUGE loss for Texas country. One of my all-timers.

Loving County is perfect music

I am not seeing this anywhere. I hope it is not true. He may not be a legend, but he would be missed.

Didn't he have to give up singing after a surgery several years ago? I hope he's still alive and doing well.

Best memory is my Dad, brothers and I sitting on the patio listening to Indianola while cracking open a cold one. Here's to you Charlie. Cheers.

He did retire for years but recently started touring.

Just did.

Not to derail, but the love for Indianola and Loving County confounds me. IMO, those are his worst. I am guessing it is country folks that like him saying he hopes the lawyer that bought their old ranch gets cancer. Give me some El Cerrito Place and some Waiting for the Mail.

Way too young...

Saw him play a number of times. Any idea what got him?

Speaking for myself, I think Indianola is popular because of the connection to Texas History. Full disclosure, I taught to a bunch of 7th graders. Tried to my best to make history interesting to kids who more interested in social media and sports.

That being said, you are right that El Cerrito is one of many of his good songs.

Coming from a German family I love Indianola and My Brother & Me (with his brother Bruce) and the way he ties in his heritage. Can definitely relate and it hits home.

Can see where others may not like them compared to My Hometown or El Cerrito place but damn good songs.

Best verse:

And we go down to the Spur some night
And listen to the river 'neath the pale moonlight
And tell our old buddies what's it's like to be
Just like my brother and me
Just like my brother and me
Don't mess my with my brother and me
Just like my brother and me

"Anybody here from a town small enough all there is to do on a Friday or Saturday night is drag Main up and down?"

Tonight from the Live album is a 1980s small town anthem.

Adios Charlie.

(Because this is TA - yes, I know Bruce wrote the song, Charlie's performance and personal telling of it is what I speak of)

Wife and I have seen him a bunch of times

I saw he was singing again and we went and saw him at Billy Bobs this spring.

It wasn't his best show but I am glad I got to see him again

The "Life of the Party" CD got worn out in the Kenwood deck in my '86 Bronco running around west Houston in the late 90s with my high school buddies.

My Hometown
Bar Light Bar Bright
Don't Call Me a Fool
Indianola
Waiting for the Mail
You're not the Best
Loving County

My Hometown hit us just right at that time going from HS to college.

John O'Reilly is a damn good song.

As is Indianola. And Loving County.

Dude could string some words together and write some great songs.

How far West of Houston? Taylor HS class of 98.

Also, did you happen to have "tri-axial" speakers that you installed by cutting a very rudimentary hole in the door?

If you had a girl with you, did you listen to some REO Speed Wagon?

I also wore out that life of the party CD senior year of high school in Houston. Was just listening to his live at Billy bobs album earlier today while working in the backyard. RIP Charlie

Damn. Thought he was on the mend.

We saw him a ton. My wife (girlfriend at the time) got up and sang the wedding song duet with him twice… once at wolf pen and again at hurricane harry's.

Great talent.

Man that sucks. It's funny what artists you get attached to because they write about things you relate to. Jimmy Buffet…sucks but I only knew one song that was handy at parties….Charlie Robison on the other hand is a big deal to me.

"You're not the best" was played on KIKK one day back home and I ran across it one day heading home from school and it was that song that was the literal gateway to all of the other texas greats and the texas country genre. That moment there was about the last time I ever listened to a main stream country station because of his album. One song. That's it. That's all it took.

Saw him in March and thought to myself he probably wasn't going to make it too long......sadly I was correct.

He sounded amazing and played all the hits.....was a great show. RIP

Oh and to add, another great song he penned, Desperate Times.

Good write up from a long time ago.

New Year's Day has always been my favorite. Reminds me of a time when I was working with a crew of cowboys south of Victoria. We were at lunch in the cafe when the cowboys from the O'Connor walked in with their spurs jingling. They apparently weren't buddies.

Same up on the northwest side in my '81 K30.

He is one of my all time favorites. Life of the Party opened up a rabbit hole I've been going down ever since.

Sunset Boulevards is definitely my favorite….I fell in love with that song well before Charlie Sheen was as famous as he his now.

I wrote an essay back in High School comparing The Great Gatsby to Loving County.

Charlie Robison was the man. Saw him several times. He and Bruce played together at Big State Festival at the World Speedway.

No telling how many times I've listened to the Life of the Party album. My Dad and I would listen to that album every morning on the way to deer hunt at a place in South Brazos County.
