Looking at buying a pedal boat for the grand kids that I can put on my 3 acre fishing pond.. Can anyone give me what to look for in the purchase of one. Also if someone has a used one for sale in good shape, let me know. Thanks for any advice offered.
If you have an Academy near you, just Google Academy pedal boats. It will show you a variety of ones you can choose from. In 2005, we purchased the Sun Dolphin 5 seat slider pedal boat with canopy, Ocean (color I believe). If you have a way to go pick it up, there is no delivery fee. We didn't and I believe they charged us $100 to deliver it (in 2005).
The canopy can be put up for shade or left down. Seats are removable. If you have to have it delivered, you're probably looking at somewhere around $1000 total, including delivery fee and tax (for this particular model).
I went onto Academy's website and below is what they say about this particular pedal boat.
1) Seats fully recline to create an on the water sun lounge for two.
2) Pedal boat has 5 seats with high backrest.
3) Super tough paddle wheel for durability
4) Maintenance free bronze bushings for longer life
5) Built-in storage area to keep your valuables safe and dry
6) Fishing rod holders
7) Canopy included
8) Beverage holders included allowing you to stay hydrated.
Weight capacity for this particular model is 530 lbs. It weighs 117 lbs itself. It has a limited life warranty. It's easy to maneuver and operate.
Academy also offers more expensive pedal boats that may provide a few more bells and whistles and/or possibly made of higher quality construction material. The one we purchased lasted for years and was great fun for our two sons when they were younger growing up (they're now 33 and 27, married and live off on their own).
Good luck with your search.
