With the beginning of dove season recently, I'm curious as to what 12 gauges you guys are using. I am toying with the idea of hanging up my old Mossberg, and getting something of a little higher quality. Initial thought was Benelli, but would love to hear other options. Thanks

Beretta 1301, kitted out with Langdon tactical configuration. (Not for dove hunting obviously).

I did shoot a Beretta multi choke but my right side rotator cuff says no this year. I guess I could shoot on my left but I'm not that mad at the birds anymore.

Been shooting a Benelli Nova (cheap pump) for over 25 years. About 10 years ago, I reconditioned my wife's grandfather's Rem 1100 20ga, and I shoot that too. The dove don't seem to mind outflying my shooting from either one. Ha ha

But I would LOVE a cool O/U, like a Wicked Wing

Benelli SBE 3….. It kicks like a mule.

I've gone to 20 and 28 ga for everything except big duck season. I even shoot 20/28 ga on sporting clays.

I shoot a Benelli Legacy Sport for sporting clays, skeet and trap, but for my dove gun, it's my Ithaca SKB model 680 O/U with 26" barrels. With the English Stock and short barrels, you can get on target before you even realize you're on target. It's fast. I'm finally at an age where I'm getting where I know what I like and what's superior for my purposes. I ditched the 12ga 28" guns a few years ago, except for tournaments.

I used to be of the mindset that the 12ga had more lead and more lead in the air means more dead birds. Eventually I realized that you're either on target or you're not and the extra lead means nothing.

My point is that you should pick a gauge, which you have, and then stick to that and go try a bunch of guns in store for fit. My Benellis are "long" to me. They fit different than beretta, Remington, Ithaca, which all fit different than each other. Your arms and body are different from anyone else here.

As long as you stick to a brand you know, you'll be good.

An old 870 Wingmaster that is still in great shape and has the pretty, original walnut stock. It's got both a modified and skeet barrel. Not only has it killed a bunch of doves, it has missed a plethora as well.

I shoot an older Weatherby Orion O/U made by SKB in Japan. I bought it from Fido98 several years ago but this is my first year to actually hunt with it. Its been great. I'm looking for a decent deal on a semiauto 20 gauge my kids can shoot, too.

Ithaca SKB o/u

I got a 20ga for $100 when my parents' next door neighbor was selling his late FIL's guns. I took that 20ga that had a rough stock but good steel and had the stock refinished. I loved that little O/U so I kept an eye out for a matching 12ga.

Low and behold I found one on one of the online auction places. Auction was over with no sale. I contacted the seller, he was a doctor in PA. We did a private deal and he shipped to my FFL.

Now I have a matched set of Ithaca SKB O/Us

Beretta 687 with 20ga and 28ga barrels when it is a nice shoot. Shooting clays, doves, pheasants, quail etc.

28ga Remington 870 Wingmaster for a lil rougher shoot.

20ga Remington 870 Wingmaster when I need a bit more....

20ga Remington 870 camo dipped for teal and ducks. Also have an 18" barrel for turkey. And an 18" cantilever scoped fully rifled barrel for slug hunting.

12ga CZ Drake Camo dipped for late season duck and goose.

12ga Beretta A300 also for late season duck and goose.

(Those two 12 gauges are the only two 12ga I own. And I rarely take them out of the safe.. I've gone to 28ga for everything and 20ga when I have to.)

Benelli M2, I've never had an issue with it.

Go swing a bunch of shotguns and figure out what barrel length fits you best no matter what you decide.

When I take a 12 it's a Beretta 391, but I usually take a Ruger red label or rem 1100 lt in 20.

I'm a poor so I'm pretty proud of my CZ Drake All Terrain. I shoot it well when I remember what I'm doing. I liked it so much I bought my wife a matching CZ 1012 All Terrain.

Browning Citori my dad gave me for my 13th birthday in 1986.

Always bring out an old US stamped Savage 720 that I got from My wife's grandfather that I'm pretty sure fell off a truck on his way home from WW2.
