Thanks in advance - I moved to a much colder climate and expect winter days to be windy and reaching 20 below or so.

Looking for waterproof, windproof pants that will handle these conditions for brief (20-30 minutes) exposures to these temperatures.

Snow should be abundant. Just for brief walks in the neighborhood. Gussets (gaiters?) to fit inside snow boots preferred.

Thanks again...

Where are you located? Do you need pants for doing work outside around the house/yard or just normal pants for a work commute and walking from a car to a building?

Moved to Montana a few years ago and I've found that a good pair of insulated Xtratufs will get you a long way. I got really tired of bulky snow boots and having to lace them up and take them off multiple times per day. I wear them when I'm clearing snow and doing work around the property and even when I go to the office. I just keep a pair of house shoes to change into under my desk.

For pants, a pair of ski/snow pants sounds like what you're looking for. I've got a cheap pair of Gerry brand I picked up from Costco. They're my snow blower/ plow pants for the most part. I typically wear thermal leggings under normal pants when I'm just going to work, or fleece lined pants. I also have a pair of Carhartt Super Dux bib overalls that are great for anything.

When I lived in Chicago I just used Duluth Trading lined firehose-flex.
Never had issues walking in sub-freezing as long as my coat was good.
If it was going to be really bad, I'd just put on some long John's under it.

Will be close to Fargo, ND on the Minnesota side. Just looking for something to keep me warm, dry, and moving relatively easily - walking dogs, checking mail, minor snow blowing.

I appreciate the input from both replies and will investigate.

A good pair of Walls insulated coveralls is the way to go if working outside. Ski pants also work. When I rode pens at a feedlot in Dalhart, I would just wear insulated jeans covered by ski pants and that would keep me warm even when it was -25 with 30mph winds. I would have used my coveralls but they squeeze you in places you don't want to be squeezed when riding in them. I used the coveralls in the feedmill and I never got cold while wearing them.

For going to town, I would just wear long johns underneath my normal jeans.

Budget? For top of the line, bulletproof pants check out Stone Glacier M7 pants:

There's also KUIU (Encounter, Guide, or Apex)

When I'm out and about and it's cold, but I don't need to worry about rain, I have a few pairs of fleece lined jeans that work well.

Personally, silk long Johns, then wool ones, then nailhead wool pants from LL Bean.

Bibs etc work too/stuff from Refrigiwear makes for good work wear.

EDIT: windy snow at that temp can get very dangerous.

When we have new people start working in the freezer, our main warning is that once the face muscles become difficult to control/feel numb, it's a matter of seconds/ minutes until your limbs shut down.

That sounds like the kind of environment where people clip to safety lines to go from the house to the barn.
