I have ring security system but no ring doorbell and an older Samsung camera system and the hard drive went out. Old camera system was great except you couldn't access through phone very easily.

What is the system everyone recommends? If it is hardwired which I tend to prefer is the Samsung wire proprietary or would I be able to reuse?

I've been mostly happy with my Arlo setup. With the batteries lasted longer, but swapping them isn't too big an issue.

Arlo. Great app, good options for solar. Great video quality with their higher end.

I'm using Reolink wifi cameras and doorbell. I don't have one with dvr or cellular connection. I use SD cards in the device with a rolling record. I only record when not at the location. It will also give notifications to the app on my phone.

Arlo is great. I have the broadband ones and I use them on my deer feeders… They hook up through AT&T network.

Only downside is all the newer ones require a subscription.

My Arlo 2s record to a huge flash drive which is nice

I went to buy another camera but decided not to because of the $9.99 a month subscription they wanted to be able to view recordings on my base station

I have this system and have been very happy with it. No subscription, 2 TB of storage, 2 way audio and I can access it from my phone/ iPad.

Wired is best if you can do it. I have Arlo which works ok. I bought some Blink wireless cameras on Prime day based on a friends recommendation and they are pretty much garbage. Very disappointed in the performance so far.

I'd like to install a wired system as we have a 1 story and easy attic access. 4 cameras ought to do it.

I've been very happy with Swann Security system. It is wired and really cool when someone's at the house and you scare the crap out of them when you talk to them remotely.

We had the ring doorbell, flood light and another ring security camera but got tired of the "only record when motion" occurs, plus the annual subscription. We had some events occur which happened after the 2 min window or just outside the camera view which didn't trigger the sensor.

I ended up going with the Lorex home system. I have 6 wired cameras with a 2TB memory system that records constantly (room for 2 more), plus the Wi-Fi camera above my garage and one for the doorbell. It notifies me on motion as well. From what I could see, it had the best/tied for best image quality both day and night. It was an easy install using the POE (Power over Ethernet) cables, so I wasn't having to connect two or run power to each. Been very pleased and other than the initial purchase price (which wouldn't have been as bad without the ring purchase also) I've had no complaints.

I have used Arlo cameras for several but replaced them with these cameras that use the Vicohome app. I believe there are several brands that work with Vicohome.

These are serverless and store video on a MicroSD. They offer a cloud service ($4.50 per month) but I haven't subscribed because I can stream the video from the camera with only a slight delay. It's cheap, easy to configure, has two way audio, an LED floodlight, and great picture quality. Best of all, it runs off solar power with the included camera. For $60 per camera you can't go wrong. I bought one to try it out and now have four.

Eufy

No subs
No home base to buy
Cloud storage off your phone
Incredible battery life (6-8mo)
Very good quality day/night vision

I run multiples around the house and inside . Seamless integration with the app. Very very easy to use.

Another vote for Arlo. Batteries last a couple of months before I need to charge them. I bought a charger from Amazon so I can charge multiple batteries at the same time while the units remain hanging in their spot.

Another vote for arlo. Bought solar panel chargers for each camera and haven't had to change out batteries in years.

Are you guys paying for the Arlo subscription? Is that the only way to get recordings to save these days?
Naveronski

I'm not.

I review each recording as it happens, and if its something worth saving, I download it to my phone.

Does anyone know the answer to this question?

Additionally, if my cameras are fine, does anyone know if there is just a box for sale that you can connect all the cameras to and what not? I think that is what is failing on mine but I'm not sure. I probably should do some digging honestly.

Vivint just made me spend an hour and a half on hold to cancel my subscription (contract expired years ago) after I sold my house. The only way to cancel is by phone. Their billing is also shady AF. They can EAD as far as I'm concerned. Terrible customer service if you're not renewing the contract.

We also got the blink/ring prime day deal. I am ok with the cameras, what sucks to me is the connectivity. It takes way too long to connect to a camera. By the time I get the doorbell to open up, the person is walking away. We haven't paid for the subscription because I have been impressed enough by them to be sure if I am keeping them.

Same experience here. Blink cameras on prime day and they are almost worthless. Watched a utility company guy walk through the yard marking underground cables and the cameras never detected it. Seems you have to be within 5 ft for the camera to detect motion.

I have watched some YouTube videos about "tuning" blink cameras. There are some key things to understand and, as long as configured optimally, they will supposedly perform. Fiber internet is being installed on my street now so I'll wait for the new internet and router before attempting to "tune" my blink cameras

I'm not paying for a subscription. I think it's 7 days of storage for free, and if it's something I need, I just download it.

Maybe the camera I added was a premium product or something. Their service sucked, never got an answer so I returned it.

I couldn't even watch any recordings without signing up

The other 3 cameras on my base station aren't like this. They record to my HDD.

This might be more of a WiFi speed issue. My Ring cameras connect and go live in under 2 seconds usually. I feel like they're pretty quick.

Wired sounds like a hassle. I have some blinks that are OK. These things are mostly for situational awareness than security at this point. You can get a clear image of a thief and vehicle (not gonna get 4k rez of a license plate, on any system) and spoon feed it to the cops but they wont do anything about it in most urban areas. Try a cheaper wireless before you spend real $$

I've installed 6 POE systems from Lorex in various places. Have been happy with all of them. No subscription needed unless you want the video monitored. Has auxiliary connections so you can trigger other things - I have internal cameras that turn on lights, and my safe camera triggers my alarm if the alarm is armed and it senses movement within a masked area.

Mobile app works well

If you are able to get your current system going and limp it along a bit, Lorex always runs good specials on Black Friday.

We use Arlo but I don't like my new Pro 4 as much as my Pro 2. As has been mentioned you need a subscription now, but that's really not a huge deal. Storage is expensive

What I don't like is the new sensor area. My Pro 2 had the whole visible area as able to detect motion. On the Pro 4 that isn't the case. The top 1/3 of the viewing area is greyed out when you position it and won't ever detect motion. For me it made it difficult to position them in a way I like. Had I know about the change before I bought it - I may have considered something else. I was able to make it work after some frustration but something to be aware of

Have 4 or 5 Geeni Hawk 3 cameras from Home Depot setup at the lake house. Easy to setup and have never had an issue with them. Also requires no subscription, and you can have unlimited cameras on one account for no cost.

Not sure about any of their other products in their ecosystem

same. Went through the whole song and dance with them yesterday and still had to send them a written notification that I wanted to cancel my service.
