Can anyone recommend a good firearms instructor in Bryan/College Station.
I am looking for someone for my daughter - student at A&M. She has grown up shooting but would like to have her get some more formal training, specifically around self defense and home defense.

Thanks in advance

KR Training is nearby and does good work. At least one of their instructors posts here occasionally

I've taken a few classes from Integrity and would recommend them. The owner, George, is a great teacher. While I don't think he has any LEO/military background himself, he supplements with additional trainers that do. For instance, the home defense class I took was lead by a Ranger battalion vet.

He has courses marketed towards women that may be a good fit.

The only other somewhat local place I've trained is Tiger Valley in Mart. It's probably a little above and beyond what you're looking for, though. I think I shot 1400 rounds of 9mm the last class I took there.

Another vote for KR Training over toward Bastrop. Trust me, it's worth the drive. Have taken many of their classes, took my folks to basic defensive pistol class w them too. Great group of instructors, with female instructors, if that's what she's looking for.

Contact Karl (the KR in KR Training). He has a ton of experience (~ 3 decades) teaching all types of people... he also lives in Bryan if your daughter getting to KR's range is a problem.

He also has all kinds of loaner guns and can find what works best for her as far as gun fit.

Took my son to KR when he was younger for fundamentals. I taught him safety but wanted him to have a formal class. We lived in Manvel at the time but the drive was worth it.

I have since gone for a couple of classes myself.

I appreciate all of the feedback, I will talk to my daughter and see if she will make the drive over to KR. It seems to be the fan favorite.

I would recommend sheepdog marksmanship in Jonesboro. A little further but terrific has private range and he is an ag and posts on here all the time.

If I can make a recommendation:

The AT-2 Force on Force Scenarios is something most instructors dont offer that is by far some of the most important stuff you can get to work on for carrying a handgun in public.

Low light class is also good but if I had to pick one, force on force is always a great learning opportunity and one you dont get many places.

Eta: its not a beginner or first time class, but something worth taking if you have/plan to take other classes.
