I have a chance to pick up a cherry 2020 Cobia 21 Bay Boat reasonably priced from a friend in a bind and wondered what the general opinion of them are?

Cobia has always been a value quality built boat. They were merged with Century Boats when Yamaha bought both brands in 1995. In 2005 Yamaha closed Century boats and sold Cobia to Maverick boats who owned Pathfinder, Maverick and Hewes boats owned by Scott Diel. In 2021 Maverick Boats sold to Malibu Boats who now own Pursuit, Cobia, Pathfinder and Maverick.
Cobia boats compliment the Pursuit line and are of a good Quality and construction.
They ride smooth and are dry. They are a less expensive line to Pursuit but have good fit and finish. One of the better value boats for the money spent on the market.
They are NMMA certified and have decent resale value compared to others in their class.

To add.... I have had many dealers that sold Cobia for many years. They never really seemed to have any problems or issues and were well liked by the consumer. In my marine career I have never heard any negatives on the boat.

For this with 17 hrs on it, a 2019 Mako 21 LTS GPK with dual power poles, 8" jack plate, MK Terrova trolling motor and Simrad NSS Evo 3. Ordered a T Top and tower from Stryker. I know I know Mako, but it was basically a new boat for an awesome price.

Maiden voyage ran smooth and agile in 1.5', my fault made a wrong turmrn at Albuquerque. Easily stayed on plane. So far no trader's remorse.

How does this design work? Not familiar with it.

Looks like it starts mid hull, just back from where the V flatens, so 10-12' or so, with jack plate all the way up it lines up with prop. The 200xps also has a low water intake at the bottom of the lower unit (below normal water intakes) enabling it to run pretty skinny. We were impressed with it.

Found this which explains it, I have the 21 which is just shy of 22', this is the 18 but same design.
