I'm interested in going to Lake Meredith to hunt deer this season. I see a lot of posts from 5+ years ago but none since. Started seeing multiple mentions of horseback hunters causing problems for others. Anyone been out there lately? Still a good place to hunt?

If you haven't already checked, there are several posts from over the years on the Texasbowhunter.com Public Hunting page. I've seen several comments there about horseback riders at Meredith during hunting season. It certainly is a challenging hunt based on what I've read about it.

If you're in decent shape, it's a tiring trip, but it's not anything crazy

The higher lake levels make boat access to hunting areas more popular. You can't always hike further back than the next guy like in the past.

My last time there, we were glassing 3.5 miles south of Blue West and a boat comes up the lake and beaches ath opening of the next canyon. The group of hunters make their way over the ridge and Boom about 30 minutes later. They couldn't have traveled more than half a mile from the shoreline.

That was a very helpful thread. Read the whole thing. Raises some interesting questions about sharing information online about places we like to hunt/hike/recreate. This is a recurring issue in many areas not just Lake Meredith.

It also seems like something should be done about what the groups on horseback are doing. Doesn't seem an appropriate use of a resource owned by all of us. Has anyone tried publishing an article about what is happening?
