I'm surprised the whole landscape didn't show up as a target with a thermal right now.

Nice work AstroAggie! Yeah thermal hunting is a lot of fun, huh?

I used to have a hunting lease between Comanche and Hamilton, near Gustine about 25 years ago. There were a couple of little cafes in Gustine where I'd occasionally eat dinner after evening deer hunts.

Back then, I never saw the first hog on that property. Wow, how things have changed since then!

It's astounding how much hogs have taken over the state just in the past 2 decades! I started deer hunting with my dad at 7 yo, and from that point on, I've been in the woods hunting as often as possible every fall, and I've hunted all over the state. I'm 56 now, and it wasn't until my mid 30s -around 2003 or so - that I saw the first feral hog in the wild. Since then… wow, what a change! I've never had a hunt as prolific as the OP's but I bet I've killed 500 of them in the past 2 decades.

No kidding. I started hunting deer in 64 I think it was. Between 50's drought and screwworms it was considered a successful hunt just to spot a deer. I went entire weekends without seeing a deer, not that I was very quiet in the early days.
It would have been nice to have pigs to polish my accuracy with my little Savage 110L in .243 instead of having to shoot Yellowjackets drinking in troughs with my Red Rider.
Good on you to help thin out the scourge.

Would you mind sharing info for the rig on the left?(i.e. the tripod, connector to the tripod from the gun, and the make and model of the thermal scope)
Thanks

curious about a cost for either one. I would like to look into getting one of these for pigs at our lease. Just getting into this night stuff but I like those

I'm not the OP and can't comment on the tripod and tripod head, but the thermal scope is a Pulsar Thermion 2 XP50 LRF Pro, a very nice thermal.

The city cafe in Gustine isn't what it used to be. I think the ownership you're talking about is at least two generations of owners ago. The current city cafe in Gustine is owned by a former waitress of Rockin J in Comanche.

No hogs on our place til about 20 years ago…southeast of Lamkin, off 36 between Gustine and Hamilton. 1 was spotted pre-dawn 20 years ago. Been a nightmare for the last 15 years.

The dairymen around Gustine are pretty serious about selling milk and Pulsar's!! One of them is either pictured above or has commented on this thread…

Here is an online store that I highly recommend, I have purchased pulsar night vision from this guy in the past.
He doesn't sell chinese sourced scopes, he answers his own phone and will chat with you about what he has in stock. He also has a kick ass youtube channel if you like night hunting pigs with full auto firearms. I got the pulsar talion xq38 but pulsar just announced the release of an upgraded version at the same price, so if you are interested in a $2.5k thermal you might want to wait until those show up in stock.
