Do they still have those scooters you can rent? That cut down on walking time significantly when I was there a few years ago.

I'm not sure if I was supposed to do it, but I made a liquor store run extremely fast while everybody was getting ready at the hotel on one of those bad boys.

If you go to Coopers, be sure to get the macaroni & cheese with jalapeños and bacon. Enough jalapeños to give it flavor, but no so hot it would die Stim schweigen lassen (make a German's forehead sweat). And of course, bacon is an essential food group.

No way I take a 14 and 11 year old to Cured, you will need a bank loan. It's good but I bet those boys would clean you out.

If you are in Brackenridge Park, stop by Sunken Gardens, then head out to the Quarry, then out to 1604 for the current quarries. Shows the progression in SA's history.

Botanical Gardens are also really nice if they are into something like that.

Another vote for Bohanan's. One of the better traditional steakhouse experiences I've ever had.

Had to refer to this thread because wife and I came to see Phil Wickham and Brandon Lake at AT&T.

I can confirm that La Fonda on Main was amazing.

Need a report on how your German friends liked San Antonio.

Visited San Antonio with my brother for the Hunters Extravaganza show last Saturday. Pros - decent sized show with live presentations. Cons - beer only bar. Freeman Expo Hall is in a terrible part of town.

Stayed at The Emily Morgan. Pros - nice hotel next to The Alamo with valet parking. Truck did not get stolen. Cons - $50 to valet park.

Dinner at Bohanan's. Pros - Outstanding food and service start to finish. Cons - they sat a table in my line of view with several dudes wearing flat brim trucker hats. Totally out of place. Boo that.

Drinks after dinner on the Riverwalk. Pros - it was very crowded but fun and lively. Cons - excessive panhandling.

Breakfast at La Panaderia Bakery Cafe. Pros - unique and very good. Cons - 30 minute wait. Circus of homeless on full display in the area.

All and all a pleasant quick trip. But I must say San Antonio is throwing off a bit of a lawless vibe these days and I would recommend being alert and armed at all times as there is almost no police presence. We had two encounters in 24 hours that would have been unfavorable otherwise.

My 80 year old mother manages to function downtown with much less drama.

My wife and I have eaten at Bohanan's twice. Last time was several years ago. We won't go back.
There is a certain group of people who spend A LOT of $$$ in SA and they are catered to.
Both times there were tables of Mexican nationals there. Kids running around the restaurant, crawling under tables. No one would put a stop to it, even after we asked them to do something about it.
Happened both times we were there but the last time was the worst. So he lost our business forever.

And SA does have a homeless problem now. And crime is bad. For 2021 the crime rate in SA was the highest in the state. I got that info from people who work at the DA's office.

I was a very good trip, and they had a great time! It was horrible hot (which we expected to a point, but it was worse than anticipated), and road construction was tough. That was the only negatives.

The Riverwalk was a hit. They love to shop and the shade and water lessened the heat and made it tolerable. They really got into the Alamo story and it's significance to Texas history.

We floated the Comal in New Braunfels. Water was very nice, and again the shade made all the difference. Water flow was low, but we didn't mind. We floated right past Schlitterbahn, so we ended up going there too once all the kids figured out what it was. I'm not a people person at all, and it was slammed, but the kids had a good time.

We went to the old Pearl brewery, as suggested. Very cool place. I'd like to go back and try any of the nicer restaurants, but we had an exhausted group by he time we went, so didn't stay real long. Enjoyed a beer and some window shopping. I'm lace looks to be growing. Lots of construction right there.

We ended up cooking at our rental house a lot more than expected, so we didn't eat out but a few times. The house was really nice and I would definitely stay there again.
