Our beloved 11 year old cockapoo has a mass under its right leg chest area which we are getting checked out Wednesday. Daughter just lost a dog to lymphoma with same symptoms. Does this situation usually signal lymphoma or is there other benign possibilities? Doesn't feel like fatty tumor as it is too large for that. Anyone have a similar situation with their pup?

I would wait and find out the results of your visit. No one here is going to know if it's benign or not. My neighbors dog has mass just like you explain, and he's had it for years. Your daughters dog had a different story. Your vet will figure out what the story is on your dog.

My old lab had a mass larger than a chicken egg and turned out to be a large fatty deposit. Since the biopsy was benign and the dog already 12 years old we did not have it removed.

My wife had a miniature schnauzer that kept getting fatty tumors. Went through surgery twice, 1 baseball sized tumor on his side just behind his right shoulder and the other a golf ball sized one on his forearm. Both times they removed a few smaller pea and marble sized tumors. You just don't know what they have until the test results come back.

Our lab has a lump in the same spot, we had it checked and it was a lipoma. Our old weimaraner was covered in them. Typically only remove them if the are in a spot that makes them uncomfortable or if they rupture.

Hopefully that's all it is.
