Couple strands of electric wire fence.

I am on 7 acres that backs up to a bayou surrounded by farm land. In the middle of wide open nothing. I hear coyotes multiple times every night.

Lil bitty outside cat....two dogs....couple horses including a mini horse that a coyote could easily take down.

Never seen one in the yard..... I've seen them beyond that fence but never inside.

You've only got a few options here:

Remove the food source

Move

Build a better fence

Get bigger dogs

Those are pretty much your options if you aren't going to stand a watch. You are looking it wrong. You need to take measures to live with the coyotes because you are not going to get rid of them. If you have a decent fence, you're probably ok.

Man I hate it when people feel the need to denigrate others searching for information.

That doesn't say much for your character. Be a good man and try to help others.

I can't imagine how bad your day must be if my half joking comment is considered denigrating someone. Take a breath and stop being so dramatic.

And start here.

"I mean that advice is asking how to illegally kill the local wildlife to let his puppies play…."

It was pretty soft comment for someone asking how to commit a felony because he'd rather do that than watch his dog.

Fellas, let clear something up. Through my research, I thought it was legal to trap/kill coyotes on private property. I am not advocating for shooting even a 22 in city limits, because that would be a felony. I am new to this city life and grew up with buddies hunting coyotes to protect livestock, I didn't see how this would be much different. I wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers over some coyotes.

I think you're confusing what we said and what we think.

I image most of us wouldn't bat an eye at you actually killing a coyote. But we also didn't make the animal cruelty or unlawful discharge of a gun laws. In a major city, that' really rolling the dice on your life for no gain.

Us pointing out that killing them doesn't do anything to change their population or solve your problem of protecting your dog isn't us trying to protect Coyote either. Stuff like this often makes no sense.

The Feds or the county or the city can trap / poison / remove if they get annoyed or find a justification, but a citizen is potentially ruining their life by doing so.

You could have posted "water is wet" and we'd have argued it over two pages…with a staff edit and two user bans.

It's all good, you're going to get some good stuff and some bull crap, it's part of the charm.

Water isn't wet. It's just that everything else is actually
dry. Get some perspective bro. #FightMe #TexAgsThrowDown #InternetGeniusToughGuy

By God the water is wet in Doss and I will burn the fence down for anybody who says otherwise!

Well, you do have to have water to make all those barrels of delicious Doss sweet tea...

You still have not told us what kind of pups you are raising. That will lead to another two pages on dog breed discussions and debates. ( Just please tell us it is not toy poodles)....kidding of course.

I have a lot of coyotes around my urban house. One thing about the coyotes around my house is that I've never seen them in my backyard. I guess there are enough food options to not warrant this. I have motion cameras so I would have seen them by now. I've seen a ton of bobcats in the backyard. Coyotes can jump fences but they don't seem to want to do it around here. People in the west desert areas (Arizona/New Mexico) have to put rollers on top of their fences to keep coyote out.

My house backs up to a golf course and see and/or hear coyotes everyday. Never had an issue with them, I have a 70 pound dog which they stay away from, but neither have the two neighbors next to me who have cats that sometimes roam freely. Too many squirrels, rabbits, mice, and other critters to not want coyotes.

If you're going to break the law and shoot one, I'd recommend using a 6.5 Creedmoor. This will ensure it runs off and no blood trail will be left as evidence

Two aspects of human nature come into play with issues like this:

1. The tendency to turn a remote threat into something much bigger.
2. The tendency to want to find a solution, even if there really isn't one.

In the wise words of an old friend……just relax.

"I hate it when city folk make the rest of us look bad."

I still can't believe someone thought this tongue and cheek response was taken so personally it warranted this.

I must not live the charmed life I thought I did.
