I need a small push mower for a couple of areas where my zero turn doesn't do well. Local shop has a bunch of $500-800 self propelled mowers which I don't need. They have a 21" SENIX brand. I'd prefer to buy locally but have no idea if this mower is good. Thanks!

Sounds perfect for a battery powered mower. I have all Ego stuff and love it. Don't miss messing with my gas powered mower at all.

The Penix model is a little easier to handle

Idk man, I used to sell outdoor equipment and I'm normally pretty up to speed on most brands. Ive never heard of these guys, and from what i have seen online it looks like a Chinese manufacturer that entered the market in the last couple of years. I don't know if it would be any better, but I'd probably feel better throwing money at a big box mower (craftsman, toro, etc) before buying this.

And…for what it's worth, if you're not doing a ton of mowing, electric really has come a long way. Switched all mine over in the last couple of years and I have no regrets.

From what I can tell its the same mower as a Troy-Built or Toro. The 140cc is a push and the 150cc is a self-propelled. The rest of the features look similar. The ones that Lowes, Walmart, and other dealers sell are probably the same as well -- all made for the various brands in the same factory.

At the price point you seem to want to be, I would spend just a little more and buy used. You could get a good commercial mower that will last a homeowner much longer than the one you're looking at will. If you can find a 2-cycle Toro commercial, that's what I have and what I recommend -- and you could actually get one for $300-450. If you can't or don't want that, I'd find something with a Suzuki or Kawasaki engine. FB Marketplace has a lot of commercial 21" mowers for sale from guys that are ditching them to move toward bigger mowers. Many started with homeowner stuff that fell apart, they rushed out and got commercial 21s, and now that they have more accounts, they're buying bigger equipment. You'll spend more for these but they'll last WAY longer than the one you're looking at. Even if it has already been beat up a bit.

Ask the guys at the shop if they have anything.

Good advice. Thanks. It will be light duty / small area. Getting tired of weed eating as the zero turn is limited in a few spots.

Local shop tried to talk me into buying a Makita electric. Said it would last 30 minutes. No thanks.

A little pricey but would recommend ego and get multiple batteries.

But it sounds like it is not a big area, so wondering why 30 minutes wouldn't be enough?

It's really not but I foresee a battery crapping out on me before the job is done. The weed eater has done an OK job over the years (in my
Son's hands!). Fortunately, my yard boy is off to Aggieland this fall. I'll go take another look at the Makita this morning

If you are considering electric, do yourself a favor and look beyond the Makita. I have an Ego with a 7.5 Ah battery that lasts around 40-45 minutes mowing about 4000 sq Ft of tough st Augustine. It cost about half of what you were talking in the OP. The beauty of the battery powered mowers is that if for some reason you can't finish on one battery, just buy another battery and have them both charged when you start. Ego and Ryobi have the best reviews, so maybe consider those as well.

You can get super cheap ones on Facebook marketplace that probably just need a carb replaced. That's what I did for the places my zero turn was limited.
