I have a Radian Model 1, and have the itch for something new. I think I've narrowed it down to Knights Armament, LMT and LaRue, but it's hard to get your hands on any of these in stores, so I'd have to order one. What say TexAgs? It'll be a safe queen, but I expect it to be ready when SHTF.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of those three. I own two Larues and really like them. In addition they are made here in Central Texas. Pick the one you like the most and enjoy!

For LMT and Knights contact Boss firearms in college station. He seems to keep some in stock. Not laRue though (to my knowledge).

I can't recommend Gucci, their ARs are terrible

I own a 7.62 and 5.56 Larue tOBR. Love them. Suppressed they are an absolute joy to shoot. But they are HEAVY. More for bench shooting than stalking or walking long distances with. A used tAR shines there as they recently stopped making the new ones with the pencil barrel.
Don't have much experience with KAC or LMT but both have great reputations. I don't think you'd go wrong with any them.

I'm leaning towards KAC, but concerned about all the proprietary parts. I like LMT too, but concerned about it's weight.

From what I've read, KAC is supposed to be a very smooth shooting rifle, which is one of the things I like a lot about the Radian.

I've always thought of Larue in the same vein as JP, high quality rifle centered around accuracy.

Own 6 LaRues - including the new Siete. Everyone I own shoots sub MOA & are smooth actions. The guns just shoot damn good and I like supporting a Texan maker. 6.5 Grendel remains the first one I take out the safe for any pig shoot or just putting some ammo down range. Certainly my favorite caliber.

If it were my choice, I'm going with LaRue.

I recently built a Larue using their match-grade Stealth upper (https://www.larue.com/products/larue-ultimate-ar-15-upper/) with a Larue billet lower. I already had some Magpul furniture lying around and a Geissele SSA trigger, or I might have bought the complete rifle. I do like the Larue trigger as well.

The Stealth does seem to be a little lighter than the PredatAR or OBR, but I wouldn't call it light by any means. Either way, it is the most accurate gun on an AR platform I have ever shot. I can't recommend Larue enough. It appears now that Larue offers the Stealth in their Black & Tan complete rifles (https://www.larue.com/category/rifles/black-and-tan/).

If Larue wasnt a Texas based company I think people would have a slightly different opinion of them.

I'm not calling them junk but theres not any AR specific forum with a nationwide userbase where you would see so many votes for Larue over either KAC or LMT. For good reason.

KAC and LMT are definitely considered a tier above Larue.

I don't know that posters here are saying that Larue is better than KAC or LMT. I can only say that, based on my experience, Larue has been one of the most accurate and reliable guns I have owned. For that reason, I have no hesitation in recommending the company to others. While I have limited experience with a KAC, I only know LMT by reputation.

It stands to reason that, of the three companies listed by the OP, the company based in Texas is going to over-index in its use among TexAgs users (as you alluded).

Marketing plays a big role it "which AR is the best". A lot of people comment and share their opinions based on marketing or anecdotal experience.

I would bet most people haven't had first hand experience with the "top tier brands".

KAC, LMT are considered by many to be the "best"
LaRue, Wilson Combat, Daniel Defense and BCM are considered by many to be " 2nd tier".

Others consider Rock River, Spikes and JP, Aero as "2nd or 3rd tier"

Many of these manufacturers have a 1 moa guarantee.
Some are built better than others and some use components I prefer like the JP silent spring.

I have or have had one of every rifle on this list and I can tell you a Rock River Coyote Carbine will shoot and function as good as any on the list. I use BCM home defense, Larue for target Andy Rock River for hunting because each is different.

My 2 cents, is to lay hands on as many as you can and determine the purpose of the rifle because it makes a different before making the purchase

Have LMT, Knights and Daniel.
LMT piston 556, 6.8, .308
LMT Di 13.5 .308 and 20 inch 6.5 Creedmoor. (That thing is lights out)

Knights 11.5 and 14.5. Your correct proprietary parts make it more difficult. LMT makes a few parts for KAC for example their lowers.

Larue is every bit on par with LMT and Knights. Fit finish and accuracy. Larue barrels are no joke.

However

Don't sleep on Daniel. Great fit and finish. New RIS III handguard is the real deal. They have cold hammer forged and chrome lining down. And replacement parts are easy to find.

Pm if you have any questions.

Boss Firearms. Call them. They will do all they can.

That Reddit list of 1st tier 2nd tier is sketchy. Calling Larue and Daniel second tier is funny.

Lower.

https://www.titandefense.com/m7da4.html

Or you could keep your radian lower which is the best ambi lower out and match with an LMT or Knights upper.

Anything Titan has Boss can get.

I wasn't calling them 2nd tier. I said many do.

LaRue quality is top notch and in real world use the most accurate on the list. With that said my Rock River Coyote Carbine is a close second and it gets no love from anyone that hasn't actually used one.

Have to understand what the use case is for the KAC/LMT versus a Daniel Defense or Larue.

KAC explicitly states their design intent was to meet a specific contract firing schedule with minimal parts replacement and barrel life to exceed 20K rounds fired with no degradation of combat accuracy due to rifling or throat errosion.

Most commercial ARs are not built with this requirement at the forefront. (Not saying they are not also capable). But what you get from going with a KAC or LMT (specifically contract models) is that level of quality.

Now does that mean you or I need that? Not necessarily, depends on what your purpose for the rifle. A competition rifle for example you may want to re-barrel much sooner to retain a certain level of accuracy. So may not be worth the upfront price tag.

But if you train a lot with a specific rifle 10-20k rounds a year then maybe you should consider one.

I do agree with others Daniel Defense is a great value for the money at a fraction of the cost and much more accessible support than KAC.

I own LaRues. I don't know who knights armament or LMT is, so not knowing if those are junk or not, I know my Larue is not. It shoots amazing, and it's a high quality product. If anyone makes a nicer AR, I think that would be the definition of law of diminishing return vs cost.

Love the low maintenance aspect, do weigh a bit extra and lack a bit in the accuracy department. Haven't shot at any thing past ~150yds with it but has always done the job inside that range.
