Figured this would be the board.

Haven't been able to find on google after about 10 minutes so I'm done looking.

Does anyone know the growth factor of a post oak by figuring diameter at chest height?

Got a 30-36 incher in the front yard and wife can't believe it's over 100 years old (pretty sure it is).

Site index is the term to determine specifics of trees at diameter breast height

In English.

Just checked it, it's 36.3 abh.

And, post being slower growing I could see well under 100 and closer to ~70 yo. Was just looking for a general number.

70 years old is a good bet. The drought of the 50's was a pretty good filter for upland trees like Post Oak. Would need to core the tree to be sure. They grow slow so it may fool you.

Got ya. Neighborhood is ~50 so I just can't see them leaving a 20 yo 4-5" diameter tree standing when they cut the place.

Location will impact age and growth rate too. I've increment cored trees in Houston and trees in San Antonio area over the years. Fairly significant growth rate difference between the two areas.

5 feet off the ground.

I read that as the tree was 5 feet tall at first too.

So that's a little above breast height.

Be sure you're measuring diameter and not circumference, use a DBH tape or do the math.

Location, environmental factors, tree genetics are just some of the variables, there is not a direct relationship between age and DBH other than as a tree gets older it should be bigger.

Interested as well. I can't seem to find an answer for this.

Our live oak is maybe 2.5 ft diameter, and it is 53 years old (know when planted). 55 year old neighborhood. Grew bigger/faster probably due to irrigation.

Most houston neighborhoods cleared all the trees, especially if they were under a 1/4 acre. Live oak would have been an exception. Pecan, post oak would have been the natural occurring trees if any were saved. They would also be weird shaped from the brush they would have out grown and bigger trees they would have chased sunlight for.
