Never dealt with the FRA or anything like that, but I do have some very brief experience as an OE reviewing plans to protect underground pipelines that a proposed spur was going to cross. You may already know this, and may luck out and find a spot to build a spur that does not cross any pipelines. But just be aware that you may have to deal with multiple additional companies to mitigate damage to their pipelines

Yep, sounds more like a spur.

If you haven't started talking with one of the carriers and rail owners, you need to start now because it will be a long process if anything new needs to be acquired or built or modified. Oh, and railways tell you what and how to build and in my limited experience there isn't any negotiations on their specs.

Yep. I like to say that railroads have the same authority as the federal government with none of the responsiveness. They are a huge pain in the ass to work with.

That's a pretty good analogy. I always said the railroads were like the mob. They do what they want, when they want without a care of how it will affect anyone else.

What's the story on that industrial park with the rail spur in Brenham at 290/6? Was that spec or built for an end user?

Exactly my experience with them. I felt like I was dealing with a mafia boss. They'd hear us out, we'd make our pitch and they would laugh like we told the funniest joke they ever heard.
