Personally I've gone from carrying full sized weapons to as light as I can get with enough capacity. Started with a full sized XD OSW and eventually a 365XL ISW. Capacity is the same but much lighter. ISW, OSW, and appendage is largely dependent on body type.
I thought you were only allowed to carry a stick........

I prefer my CZ P01 with Versa Carry OWB with the Versa Carry belt. Locally made in Bryan.

Because not fixed to a set of belt holes. Allows for tighter/looser micro adjustment

So you have LTC but have never carried?

Get a Glock 19. CYA holster. Done

The only IWB combination I have ever found that is comfortable are small J frame revolvers. Otherwise they just suck. IWB sucks ass. And I am not a fat.

I agree with Brazos in carrying OWB if possible. I carry OWB, IWB, and in the pocket depending on what I am wearing. Most often way BY far is a Ruger LCR .32 mag in a pocket, followed by the same gun in an IWB appendix, followed by the occasional OWB with an H&K p30sk 9mm.

But I am getting more and more used to the OWB option and am now dressing that direction more and more. I spent a good amount of money and a high riding OWB holster and belt that make all the difference really. I can pull it off in probably 75% of my shirts.

I still probably prefer the pocket carry over everything else.

One thing OP to understand is capacity, cartridge selection, and ammo selection are vastly overrated. It goes like this.

1. will you carry it.
2. is it reliable
3. can you shoot it accurately.
4. is it a .380 or bigger in a pistol or .32 mag or bigger in a revolver.

Then there is a bunch of wide open space on the page.

Then you have capacity and ammo/cartridge selection.

A lot of times you will read these big arguments about capacity and ammo selection being really important. AND THEY ARE. But it is a given that the first four have been satisfied.

One of my carry guns holds six and the other 13+1. I don't really choose one over the other based on capacity. They both satisfy the first four and I can shoot the hell out of both of them. It mostly depends on what I am wearing

Last, when choosing ammo, it goes in this order.

1. Is it reliable
2. Is it accurate out of your gun
3. Is it a hollow point or in a revolver a powerful enough wadcutter

then there is a little space in the page

4. Does it penetrate.

then there is a bit more space in the page

5. Does it expand.

A lot of more knowledgeable folks on here than me. But getting in because I always learn a thing or two from these threads.

Make sure you check out the Sig 365 Macro. I've already got a slightly modified XL I like or that would be the first one I looked at for carry.

Also throwing out something like the CZ P-01 or PCR if you like CZ's. Small enough to carry but still shoots like a CZ.

Love my P01, but the 365 is a WAY better for actually carrying.

I think "way better" is a personal conclusion. Smaller? Easier to conceal? Certainly. But I carry both depending on weather and wardrobe. He mentioned he likes how a full-size CZ shoots, so a P-01 (or PCR in my case) is certainly a compromise between "shootability" and concealability. If he's more comfortable shooting it and can find a way to comfortably carry it on his body, it may be a much better option for him. (The RAMI is certainly more comparable in size, but it gets mixed reviews online. I think even a couple of renowned CZ guys on the board have mentioned they're not big fans.)

Though for what it's worth I personally agree. Make me choose one or the other and its my XL by far. But as discussed ad nauseam on this thread and past, a lot of this is truly personal/individual comfort levels.
Thanks, and Gig 'Em!

Another +1 for Nexbelt. I don't wear any "normal" belts anymore. That's the only hard recco I have. The rest is preference, which sadly can only be sought by spending some money.

This is not advice to the OP, but rather a question for the in-the-know guys and gals. I am posting this here because the OP may benefit from your answers.

Since Texas is now an open carry state, does it really matter (legally) if a conceal carry license holder has an occasional printing issue with his firearm? As stated in the responses, carrying concealed may be preferable in many situations even though open carry is now legal, but if one decides to carry concealed and inadvertently prints at some point, is that a problem legally?

No, it is not an issue.

It didn't matter before. Printing hasn't been illegal in Texas since the CHL law was passed in the 90s. Carry away and don't worry about it.

I "print" all the time carrying AIWB. People are generally too in their own world to even give a second look

One thing I have not seen mentioned for the OP is you need to run the hell out of any gun you choose to carry. Depending on what gun you buy and what ammo you choose to carry they can be pretty fussy, especially early on. And don't just assume that because you buy a popular brand or an expensive gun or its the same gun that your neighbor friend has that it will automatically shoot well right out of the box with anything you feed it.

The last gun I bought(H&K P30sk) to carry I shot probably 300 or so times using all kinds of different ammo plus another 100 when I decided what ammo I wanted to match it with. Then I shot it a couple of hundred more times. Only after that did it venture out into the wild.

Thanks for all of the advice, guys.

For holsters, I'm looking at the TXC Holster line (and they are local so that's nice). Open to other as well and don't mind having two.

I rented the Glock 43x and wasn't a fan. Then I rented some Sigs. The Sigs felt so much better to me. I liked the feel of the P365XL just slightly better than the macro. Up next, Staccato. The Staccato compacts were really nice but I am just not a fan of the grip safety. It's a mental thing for me on those. Otherwise I love the gun. So that said, I may get the Sig P365XL Spectre Comp. I haven't found a place to shoot it yet but I do love the XL and the comp makes it interesting.

So next up is to purchase everything. then I'll run the **** out of it to become proficient. I like the idea of taking some classes and will be looking for Houston recommendations on that later.

Thanks again (and keep suggestions, critiques, insults, yo mamma jokes, etc coming)

The comp is the only change I would make to my XL. I've heard it's worth it.

I'm not a fan of red dots on carry weapons. If in the situation you will likely be feet away....won't need a red dot and practice such that as you come to proper aim you are immediately firing. You won't be looking for much of a laser accurate sight picture. You don't need the ten ring you need the basketball sized center mass. You might even be aiming from the hip on a rapidly approaching bad guy. I've seen where the laser didn't work, dead battery, or finger in the way and the operator would not fire looking for the laser first. Don't need it don't use it don't anticipate it. In a stressed situation it will be worse and you will lock up.

Funny, imperfect sight pictures are exactly where red dot sights excel and are faster....

I impulse bought one on Thursday on sale at Academy. Haven't shot it yet, but can already tell I'm going to like it better than my G43 or Shield.

Did you ever try the shield plus? The one shield I bought (impulse online sale buy) I sold because I wasn't a big fan. However, Honest outlaw (YouTube) raves about the Plus. Comparison against the P365 below.

No, never picked up a Shield Plus. I went to Academy to kill some time before an appointment close by. Walked out with a gun I had no intention of buying when I walked over to the gun case.

What is your daily environment?

Driving hours a day? Rural? Urban pedestrian?

Personally, I suggest a lightweight J frame, with 38 special wadcutters - Federal Gold Match - as a first gun, because it's a simpleish to shoot pocket gun, with mild recoil, the sights tend to be regulated to that load, and it's a carry load, which is reasonable to shoot for practice.

(Get one of the hammerless ones without a safety lock)

There are times when you will not want to structure your apparel around carrying, and pocket carry is a very good idea if you will be an urban pedestrian.

(Ideally as a back up to an appendix carry, but that's not always going to happen. Pocket carry can always happen.)

Probably a silly question but is there any reason to buy a holster from the mfg the gun was made? I have a P365 and see a lot of Sig brand holsters at the range.

If no, are there any type of IWB/OWB holsters that are better than others for smaller handguns such as the P365?

Or is it just find what is most comfortable and they pretty much all will work with whatever handgun you own?

I would recommend taking a class (from a credible instructor) before running it to become proficient. Practice makes permanent, not perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect. If you have any bad habits and build proficiency in those bad habits, it will be that much harder to fix them.

You don't buy a set of golf clubs, go to a course and start swinging. Take a lesson from a pro to learn good fundamentals, and then practice them.

Maybe you've already selected your carry pistol, but I wanna say of all the pistols I've carried, the Sig P365X (original P365 length slide with P365XL grip module) is the best compromise of capacity, size, and shootability FOR ME.

I installed the MagGuts +2 magazine spring & follower kit in mine, and I now have a 14 + 1 capacity pistol that I can pocket carry! I look at the size of that little pistol and am still amazed it holds that many rounds! The slightly longer XL grip fits my hands better (no pinky hanging off the bottom of the grip, offering better control) while the short slide still keeps it really compact.

I admit, I don't shoot it quite as well as I do my full size pistols, but I still shoot it remarkably well for its size. Everything involves making a series of trade offs.

I replaced the OEM Sig grip with the Wilson Combat grip and I think the Wilson is better in every way - more ergonomic, fills my hand better, offers better grip texture.

It's been 100% reliable thus far.

The resulting package is everything I want in a carry pistol all wrapped into one.
