Mine got bent/broken by something it captured, so I need a new one.

I was thinking about trying traps sold by harbor freight. They are significantly cheaper and don't seem to be poorly reviewed.

This one has caught coons, ringtails, skunk and fox for us.

Conibear 220. Not sure why you want a live coon.

The dukes live trap is good. I stopped using them because you mostly catch possums.

Youll have much much much better success with the dukes dog proof coon cuff and rarely catch another species.

Seconding the havahart. Marshmallows for bait worked well for me

Yep, they're good and reasonable.

Good choice but definitely not in an area where pets could be killed.

Another Havahart recommendation. Have probably caught 20 raccoons, a few possums, and one skunk in ours.

Coons are going to tear up most any box trap, if you catch enough of them. I highly suggest taking a piece of plywood and cut a hole to match up with the handle on top. The little aluminum pad doesn't offer much protection from a coon's claws and teeth when you try to pick up the box trap to haul it off somewhere. Whichever brand you buy, get the single door trap.

As someone else mentioned, I would use the coon cuffs rather than a box trap. They are a lot less expensive and will only catch your target animal.

Second the Dukes cuff trap. Fyi they can make quite a bit of noise when they are caught if you are in an urban area and wanting to be quiet about your project.

I use the cuffs (never knew the name before!) and have caught skunks about 20% of the time this year. 2 skunks and 8 or so coons.
Hate catching skunks, both for obvious reasons and I have no desire to kill them anyway.

What brand are they? Ive probably caught 300 coons in the dukes and maybe 3 fox squirrels. They require the trigger to be pulled. Z-traps and some of the others use a push/ pull trigger and theyll catch anything that sticks its paw in. Lots of possum and squirrels.

Pulled my traps this morning (1 coon, no skunks!) and they are Duke traps. Maybe I just have bad luck.

It has been the skunk rut. Might not have any more issues.

Because in this weather, the meat might be spoiled by the time he gets home.

I bought the harbor freight trap.

I'm not so sure on the trigger mechanism for this trap. So far I have caught nothing, with the trap being robbed each time. I'm not sure if rats are eating the peanut butter instead of bigger game I am after (although I would like to catch the rats as well).

I may put out a game cam to see what is going on with the trap. The trigger may need some modification.

If you're eating them use a Havhart live trap so they stay fresh.
Duke's leg trap if you're getting rid of varmints.

Large Marshmallows suspended from a wire work great on the live trap.

Not sure what the wire square dimensions are on the HF trap, but a rat will get through a nickel to quarter sized hole.

I have the have a heart and had trouble with the bait getting taken with no trap or the mechanism not getting triggered also resulting in no catch.

Two things I did.
I started putting tuna for bait and would wrap it in a little foil with holes poked. Then I would use the foil to hold it to the bottom of the trigger mechanism.
I also put a small bungee on the door to help it slam shut harder when the mechanism was triggered.

The one I use of from Harbor Freight and a quarter of the price of a Havahart. I have caught about 20 or so raccoons an opossum's combined. Never had one get out and the back door/wall makes for an easy removal or release.
