Pretty cool video of a successful hunt. Dinner is all around me. Just killed my second rat of the year, possum living in the back yard teasing my dog, squirrel in the attic and of course it's about to be fire ant season.

But I live in the city!

we have possums too. i welcome them. they eat just about everything i don't want around. occasionally, i have to go grab one of the dogs and bring them in b/c they have a possum cornered and its playing dead. Luckily the dogs don't actually go after them, they just bark and run around like idiots.

also in the neighborhood we've seen: coyotes, skunks, millions of rabbits, great horned owls, raccoons, and probably stuff i'm forgetting. And yes, we are in the middle of round rock.

I let my possum-s alone for the same reason. They are vacuum eaters of crap critters I don't want. June bugs to spiders. Anything . They do bring fleas so I bomb my patio twice a year where they burrow and that solves the problem.

I've seen every critter you have except coyotes. But I'll add a Fox.

Have a huge possum that lives outside our place in CSTAT, I think in this large bush right by my front door. Cameras catch it moving at night pretty frequently. Like having him around, though my dog seems very interested in that bush sometimes when we are in town. I was unaware that they are beneficial to have around, Thanks for the info!
There may not be time to do the job right, but there is always time to do the job over!!

They are absolute tick vacuums.

We had to put down my childhood horse because he got EPM from a possum and started to have seizures. Ever since then I've had a vendetta against possums and kill every one I can.

In regards to urban wildlife...
Mark Roeber on YouTube has a video from one of his early squirrel obstacle courses where in the end he talks about how it all started. H got a bird feeder during Covid. Then he got curious and set up a camera because the seed was disappearing faster than the birds were eating it He was shocked, not just at the squirrels, but at the abundance of other wildlife in his suburban setting.

Ordinarily the possums and critters get a pass....but we have horses. So those critters have to get dead. Don't want EPM for sure. More skunks than possums.... haven't seen either in about 6 months so hopefully thinned em out....

Years ago while hunting on my lease down in Webb county, I got to watch four bobcats try to sneak up on a covey of blue quail. The stock probably took 10 minutes. It was really cool to watch. Sorry, it was back before the days of cellphones
So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

Count me on team possum. It's cool having an endemic marsupial visit our yard. They drive our little dogs crazy. Bark their heads off but they'll never actually touch the possum.
Coolest thing was watching mama possum walk along our fence with a bunch of babies hanging on.

We do have undeveloped property in back of us, but still well inside metro SA. I would add to the above foxes, ringtail, juvenile porcupine, coyotes, ravens.

While on a teebox at Traditions I watched a bobcat sprint all the way across a fairway to munch a squirrel. Pretty cool.
