Looking to replace my outdoor 2-stroke yard tools with electric.

I have a bunch of attachments for a gas trimmer.

Looking at a Ryobi expand it 40v or an e-go 56v. I have an ego blower. I am caught up on the ego having a proprietary splined attachment so I would have to buy all new attachments.

Is the ego that much better than the Ryobi?

I have ego blower, weeded and polesaw. All 56v so I can change out battery's as needed. Absolutely nothing bad to say. When my mower finally craps out I'm replacing it with an ego.

Cannot speak of Ryobi. Someone else can offer an opinion but I've never seen bad reviews here of the brand.

I have a Ryobi mower and trimmer for my smallish yard and a corded Snow Joe snowblower which will chew through over a foot of snow. The Ryobi batteries seem variable quality: one won't make it through a whole yard but the other battery just keeps on going. We felt the relative safety of not storing gasoline in a wooden structure was worth it. I also don't have to do maintenance on either a snowblower or lawnmower engine.

Most power tool companies are making cordless lawn tools now. I would match whatever tools you have to maximize your battery ecosystem

Model? Voltage? Is it compatible with the older expand-it attachments?

I have a Ryobi 40v mower. The batteries are good but the mower has too many "safety " features that can cause issues and it won't run. Had mine for two years and when it ran it was great. I have a Stihl battery chainsaw and will be switching over their mower. You can check online about the Ryobi issues.

I have the ryobi 40V chainsaw and weedeater. I've been pleased with the power and battery life (one 4AH and one 5AH). Both do what I need at a 1 ac lot we purchased and at our current place. I don't know anything about their mowers.

I will say the batteries are not cheap especially for those over 4AH. Like a lot of electric items, the cost of the batteries are 80% of the cost of the tool w/ battery, and to the point that I may shop around if these crap out eventually.

Ego, and it's not close. Will cost a little more maybe but it's the best system for yard tools…

Going into 6th season with Ryobi 40v mower and extend-it trimmer and edger. No issues.

Those with Ego, how long are your Ego batteries lasting? I have 2 that are going on 2 years now and both won't power any attachment for more than about 5 minutes. I've kept them constantly charged but it seems that I already need to replace them.

I've had mine since 2019 and they are still going strong

Using the Ryobi 40V system on a small yard. Able to get through yard, weed eating, edging and blowing on all 3 batteries.

Have mower with 6A battery, edger/trimmer with 4A battery, blower with 5A batter (reconditioned) and just bought 14" 40V brushless chainsaw but have used it yet.

Check https://www.directtoolsoutlet.com/ for Ryobi deals. Was able to buy the blower and 5A batter reconditioned for $75 to the door. Chainsaw factory blem for $135 to the door with no battery.

The reconditioned stuff has a 1 year warranty but the factory blems have the full 3 year warranty.

Heading into the 2 year and will see how things go.

Batteries replacement is a killer....not worth the tools...went back to Echo/Honda gas

I have (not sure I can remember all). Ryobi
powered telescoping brush (great for washing the truck or high windows)
drill
saws all
hedge trimmer
pole saw
3" rotary cutting disk
cordless vacuum
powered 5 gallon sprayer
nail gun

I tried to stay/transition to Ryobi so that now I have a bunch of batteries and chargers at the house/barn. I like the simplicity of not having to mess with gas/oil/extension cords.

I also have a Ryobi riding mower, but I have the old kind that has deep cycle batteries. There is a new one with lithium batteries but they aren't swappable with the other Ryobi stuff as far as I can tell.

I have a Stihl electric small chain saw, hedge trimmer, power scythe and weed whacker. The last three are the same thing, you just change out the implement. The Stihl battery is more powerful and charges stupid fast but the battery is heavy.

GF had Black and decker electric weedwhacker, flashlight, hedge trimmer and saws all. That's actually my favorite because the battery is stupid light but minimal power and battery time. I wouldn't buy it, but I use them alot because of the weight. She also had a Kohler electric blower. Works ok, but very poor battery time and charging takes forever.

TLDR: I guess I own everything but an EGO, but Ryobi works great. I've had more Ryobi batteries die than the others but I've owned them the longest so it may be the old batteries, I don't know. The chargers are fickle and once it senses the battery is "bad" it won't charge.

Ryobi shipped me 2 replacement batteries when one crapped out under warranty. Idk if they meant to send 2, but thats what they sent.

Yeah, I should have labeled them when I got them. I don't know which ones are which now. I still have like 6 good batteries floating around so I don't worry about it. My battery runs out way before they do.

Iirc their serial number or data plate has a date code so it may notnhurt to call. I cant recall what their warranty was, but after the first call it was all over email so no hassle. I absolutely hate paying good money for something that doesn't work properly so I will always chase down a warranty claim.

I haven't had any major issues with any of my Ego implements thus far. I have a cultivator attachment arriving later this week; remains to be seen how that works.

I started with Ryobi but had some issues.

Without getting into a pissing match, I'm simply going to say I have all Ego now and got rid of all my Ryobi.

About to ground out and disable all safety interlocks on this Ryobi 40v mower on 3rd season of use.

Theres so many safety interlocks on this POS that they will fail and make the mower non functional.

In any event got this piece of **** at HD for dirt cheap so I guess I got my moneys worth over three years but got two batteries that are still good.

Might go back to gas though but like the lightness of it and not blowing out my hearing.

Solution to that 20" 40v Ryobi cutting out is to cut the wire coming down from the handle going into the mower and twist the black, yellow and brown wires together. This disables all the handle safety interlocks and start button and the mower will start as soon as you put the battery in. Got to start and stop the mower with the red key but otherwise runs like a scalded dog now. Would not recommend this if kids using it.

Probably get a few more years out of it, but wouldn't buy this pos again. Ego sounds like the better option.

The wire pinching can happen on the older egos too, but that can actually be an advantage if you're even mildly handy. Go on Facebook and find someone selling/giving one away because it doesn't run. Ask them a couple of questions and see if it just stopped running one day or if they fold it up when they store it.

(You can actually test if this is the problem by putting the battery in and trying to start it and moving the handle up and down, if it engages at any point then this is the problem. Or, if it's self propelled, the self propelled part will still work but the blade won't engage)

If so, google the fix, involves taking the cover off and twisting a couple of wires together to bypass the safety switch in the handle. You still need to press the button and hold down the lever to start it so it's still safe even if you have kids around, it's just bypassing the safety switch that won't let you start it if the handle is folded.

It took me like 10 minutes to fix one I found for free on Facebook. 10 minutes and a wire nut and I've got a $800 mower (i already had the battery for other ego products, which i also really like btw, to the point of the thread). Been using it for two years now and love it.
