If you are a saltwater fisherman, and you like gear, you need to check out the Houston fishing show at George R Brown Hall E. I am planning on heading down there Saturday. It is an amazing show for fishing consumers. Most of the baits I use will be on show specials, so it allows me to stock up on my confidence colors. I have never been disappointed with what I find when I spend a few hours in the truck to get there from Central Texas.

If you get a chance to go, post up with your favorite find!

I go every year and buy a bunch of stuff I don't need and drink overpriced beer. It's fun, wouldn't miss it

We used to go to the GRB annual hunting show back in the 90s. $7 admittance fee, $5 for a 16 oz draft beer, and if you worked it right, walk out with (even at 90s prices) about $130 in free snuff and long leaf tobacco. No, we did not chew all of the different brands, however when we'd get a free 10 can log of Copenhagen and have the rest to hand out to friends and try some we had not before, it was well worth it. And fun to boot.

Dave Holder, who was the PENN Rep. started this show back in 1986 or so. We used to display boats there with our dealers. As you say, it was, and continues to be one of the best fishing shows in the country. Lots of manufacturer vendors and displays and some great deals to be had. I remeber that the old Cut Rate Tackle booth use to have a Sunday afternoon special that was unbelievable........they would drop prices to dump all they could so they did not have to pack it up and haul it back to the store.
The other factory vendors would do the same right before they closed up Sunday afternoon.
One of, if not the best, shows that I had to go work in my sales region.....I actually could not wait to get there.

Hope you guys all have fun and pick up some great deals!

Just got back. Bought a $300 new reel that I actually needed, a bag of lures that I did not, a fishing trip to Hackberry that I owed a buddy, and several overpriced beers. Life is good!

Any good deals? Or just an excuse to spend money?

Show was great this year. Lots of big names in Texas saltwater fishing and many prominent smaller companies as well. Picked up two reels, about $250 worth of lures, and some nice Sarge rods shirts. Along with 4 or 6 beers and a few bottles of water. FTU had some great deals.

Also, had been listening to Speckled Truth podcast and their latest guests from hook and bullet sunglass company. Show special hooked me on a pair, and so far I like them. They use Zeiss optics.

Met a few vendors for some possible CCA banquet promotions etc. Overall I came out with a backpack stuffed full and about 10 Benjamin's lighter than when I went in. Can't wait for next year.

Most texas lure makers had 20-50% off normal pricing. Moat rod and reel companies there did also. It always has some good deals depending on your target.
