I have 2 gas and 1 electric …. Nothing comes close to a gas powered saw when you have a bunch of work or a big tree to cut up …. My electric is good for small little jobs that means I need to cut up some small branches and maybe 1 big one .. electric is nice for around the house but it ain't cutting mustard on big jobs .. just my 2 cents.. we took down 75 feet of wood fence, electric cut for about 10 minutes and maybe 8 posts …. Broke out the big gas bad boy and tore down and cut up the entire fence in about 30-45 minutes

Conclusion: they both have their place and purpose

I use a Milwaukee Hatchet for tree trimming. easy to one hand and much simpler if you are in a lift.

Best thing i have discovered is the e-go synthetic bar lube at lowes. It doesnt leak out of the reservoir when stored and water soluable if you do spill.

Yep. None of them will be in the same level as a gas unit, but they do have a place and are dang handy.

I've got the EGO 16". It's worked like a champ for me the past couple years. I just wish they made it with a 20"+ blade. I've used it for larger trees and I have to make cuts from both sides to fell them. I've got a smaller Stihl (16") and I grab the EGO pretty much every time. It seems to be just as powerful as the same size Stihl.
They have an 18" bar and chain available.

Probably reduces run time per battery noticeably, but unless you are making a whole mess of cuts, is that going to be a major issue?

18" might work. I've got some pretty big wood but the the 2 extra inches might make it where i only have to work it from one side and I can finish sooner and take a nap!
phrasing
Phrasing was spot on. If it made you laugh, I did my job for the day.

I have 5 now
Ryobi
Milwaukee
Kobalt
They are all great. I have two gas units and have not fired them up in years. I routinely am clearing cedar.

I have the RYOBI 40V HP 18 inch and it's been great. I've used it more recently with the downed limbs but even removed from trees at my moms with no issues. I have two batteries but the one batter will usually last all day unless doing larger trees, might need the 2nd at the end of the day, but it's been great.

Thanks for the Project Farm review video. Here is a different review of various models : https://www.protoolreviews.com/best-battery-chainsaws-reviews/

Personally, I'm interested in the Makita vs. EGO 56V vs. Kobalt 80V as I'm already invested in those battery systems.

For no more often than I use my gas one I've been thinking of swapping for battery powered. It always seems like the gas sits around and gets gunky and tempermental for the twice a year I seem to have a need for it.

I picked up the E-Go 56V 16" a while back from Ace Hardware when they had a special running - largely because my dad and brother already had other E-Go tools, so there were backup batteries available. I haven't had any complaints so far, and for around the house work, including some extensive tree-trimming, I've never managed to find the end of the 5aH battery that was included.

Watch the project farm dude's video posted above. The guy is very factual and scientific in all his testing.

I have a lot of DeWalt 20V Max tools, so I just got their 12" bar chainsaw for small stuff around the house. I have been very pleased with it. It was pretty handy to go to work on fallen limbs after the last freeze.

Same. Love my DeWalt saw.

It finally got to the point I needed to sharpen the chain, so I upgraded the chain and bar, and did the o-ring mod.

Done a lot of work with the Milwaukee M18. Biggest complaint is how often it throws the chain. You need to tighten it every 10-15 minutes of cutting in my experience
I have the Milwaukee battery setup so was thinking to stay with it. Your comment and something I saw on a review that the bar was not durable enough for cutting firewood give me pause. Anyone seen problems with the bar? I have a Stihl gas that would get the heavy use, but electric should would be nice for a lot of stuff I do.

I'll vote against Greenworks. I have a Greenworks pole saw that is awesome. I figured that the chainsaw would be just as good. If the chain stays on for more than a second, I'm shocked. It's faster to use a hand saw than fight that damned thing.

my greenworks chainsaw has not thrown a chain once in three years. Light suburban use but still.
