Had a chance to spend a few days in deep south Texas to chase trophy speckled trout with two longtime (40+ years) Aggie buddies. We've spent most of our lives fishing the Rockport/Corpus area. Over 3 days we fished the lower Laguna Madre spending close to 24 hours on the water - including missing the first four hours on the second day due to crazy winds. Throwing artificals only (Texas Custom Double D's and Corkys, Mirrolure Lil John XLs on 1/16oz jigheads) - Fish were hitting everything we threw. We were 100% catch and release on this trip - all the trout and reds.
Love the Texas coastline - the pictures don't do it justice. Over 3 days caught dozens of trout between 20" and 28" and probably twice as many redfish up to 30". Crazy the fish we were catching in knee deep water - we would catch fish like this in waist deep (or deeper) water around Rockport/Corpus... Great trip with my longtime Aggie buddies.

Sunrises on the lower Texas coast NEVER disappoint.
Wade fished the flats - worked around the grass beds. Fishable water for mile after mile after mile.... Jump out the boat and start wading.

Typical trout over the 3 day trip - most were in the 21" to 25" range. This one was 25" and 3 pounds. Caught 15 to 20+ each day like this one.

We couldn't keep away from the redfish... Easily caught 2 reds for every speck. Here's one at 28"

Sometimes it's hard to get someone to snap a pic when you're on the water and everyone is on fish...Redfish everywhere....

Trout mixed in too...

Don't like the weather in Texas? Guaranteed to change overnight. Fog/cloud cover helped the bite on Day 3.

Could post picture after picture of 25"/3# trout and 28"+/7#+ redfish.... did have one nice trout. She was over 28" and 6 pounds - caught on a Seagrass Texas Custom Double D. Talk about getting the adrenaline going...

These lower Laguna Madre fish are just different.... Solid....

Released to spawn again this spring

Got the trip set up again for next year - ready to head back.... SW '86
