Mesquite is probably one of the better places.

Avoid Tony's.

I think the only time I've ever stopped in Sealy to eat was at Whataburger. Can't think of anything there that is worth stopping at.

You also said 'off the beaten path', so I'm assuming you don't mind getting of I-10 a bit.

If that's the case:

Bellville -

22 North Holland
Trump Burger
Bellville Meat Market
The Hill
Uncle Bill's Pizza

Sealy -

Prasek's (forgot they built one there)

Eagle Lake -

Austin's BBQ

Anybody have a recommendation for Columbus? Going to wedding in March.

For Columbus, Dairy Cone is a must. Maybe it's because we are always starving from working when down there but one of my favorite burgers.

Wolf Pack has a really good burger and a decent sized menu with multiple options

Wolf Pack Bar and Grill

Tony's is decent for breakfast. Wouldn't go for much else.
Nothing wrong with a stop at Chicken E.
In Bellville, the Hill is better than Trump Burger, and the Meat Market is good.

Schobels is the answer to this. It was my answer for Sealy as well.

Wolf Pack is good, Riverside Seafood just off I-10 by high school is also good. Avoid Tony's like the plague.

Lol. Yeah. Let's go with that. When we'd go hunting with my buddy Hintz, Tony's was the place to stop after **** hunting to grab some grub. It was the bomb. Not because it was outstanding food but just because it's a standard greasy spoon with the locals and your buds. We affectionately call it "TOE-nies" because the last time we went there was huge guy eating breakfast next to us, chain smoking, wearing a tank top and athletic shorts, and sandals with no socks…in the winter…and he had a massive toenails that were long, curled up at the end, and clearly had a fungal problem.

Good times. Seriously, some of the best breakfasts ever.

I'm going to disagree with The Hill. It's a standard frozen burger patty tasting burger. I've been a few times since I lived around there and every time I never could understand the fascination. just turn your truck South and go to Diary Queen. I encourage going just set your expectations accordingly.

Are you comforted by crap food? My in-laws like to go there after church occasionally and I've never had anything approaching good

Yes Wolf Pack is really good. It's run by Derek Lechner and his family. Derek is Shane's younger brother. Derek and his family traveled the world with his family and posted many of their journeys Called it the Wolf Pack.

Lunch plates at Tony's are good and don't understand the hate. They at least serve certified American catfish unlike the Swai that the majority of places that claim it as catfish. Mesquite is great also.

I'm not sure if you have actually been to the Dairy Queen in Bellville or you wouldn't say that… We don't even get ice cream there anymore, the food tastes like burnt grease and they can't keep any staff there so no one knows what they are doing… at the hill, you need to order the homestyle patty with the jalapeño sourdough bun, definitely not just a frozen patty.

Wolf Pack in Sealy. Hound Song Brewing Co. / Blake's Kitchen and Kocktails in Columbus.

No love for Hinze's? Pretty good BBQ and great pie. It would probably not have the proper mouth feel for the brisket neck beard dorks, but solid.

But I'm with most in that if I'm hungry in Sealy, I go to Prasek's or hang on until Bellville or Ellinger or La Grange, depending on where I'm heading.

I second Hound Song Brewing. Cool place and we had a great lunch there a month or so back.

Miles has taken the menu there to a whole new level. All pretty good but some of his stuff is outstanding.

Honestly the best wings I've ever had.

There's also a bar in downtown sealy, can't recall the name. Cool place but they are open for lunch and the burgers are very good.

The Chinese buffet is actually decent too

Ropers in Simonton has the best breakfast I've ever had and a solid lunch menu too.

Of course for fine dining there is Anthonies in Simonton

East Bernard has lupes. It's the best Mexican food in the region.

Anyway, a few pretty good choices.

I have been to DQ. I lived there for 15 years (in the county, not at DQ). I've been to the Hill four times in an attempt to convince myself it was good

HOWEVER…. It's been two years since I ate there so if I go through there again, I'll give it another go and re-evaluate. Maybe they are under new management and we aren't really talking about the same business or food.

Brazos, you must have not been there back in the day when Larry Bird was cooking the burgers like back in my high school days. Maybe that is why I have an affinity for the place. Any long time Bellville person will know exactly what I am talking about. Lol
