What is this and how do I kill it? Scattered throughout my Bermuda lawn.

Originating from a single root cluster. Long silky roots. Pulls easily but there seems to be so many that a broad application of something would be best.

Thanks

Accordi g to Wiki:
Poa annua, or annual meadow grass (known in America more commonly as annual bluegrass or simply poa), is a widespread low-growing turfgrass in temperate climates. Notwithstanding the reference to annual plant in its name, perennial bio-types do exist.[citation needed] This grass may have originated as a hybrid between Poa supina and Poa infirma.[2]

Unfortunately, OP, there's not much you can do at this point. Warm weather and surging bermudagrass will get it in a couple of months. A good pre-emerge around 9/1 and again 3-4 months later should get it for next year.

Apache is better at this than me, but there are several pre-emerge granules out there with a chemical called "Dimension" as the a.i., and any should work just fine.

How big is your yard? If not too big, I'd invest in a 4 gallon backpack sprayer and go liquid instead of granular. That way you can also take care of pesticides and fungicides if needed with the sprayer as well.

I'd put down Prodiamine ASAP now at half max rate and then again 9/1 half rate again. Simazine with 2 split apps 10/1 and 11/15-12/1 takes care of poa very well. Specticle Flo is the very best pre e you can buy, but not cheap. The first 2 are very budget friendly.

Probably a dumb question…does Randy Lemon's schedule work for Bermuda too, or just St. Augustine?

Is this different from Nutsedge? I thought I get a Nutsedge infestation every year but this looks similar.

This went through my Bermuda lawn in west Texas a year ago.

Being in rural west Texas I was happy to have something green and grassy.

I laid down weed and feed on the aggressive side, watered heavily throughout the spring and it vanished by summer and never returned.

It will probably return here soon. It dies in the summer heat only to return the next late winter/spring.

Yes, do a Google image search. The white seed heads will probably give poa annua away. Nutsedge is easier to pull by hand also, while papa annua is pretty tough, well rooted. In my dormant Bermuda lawn, I just hit current weeds with roundup.

Heat will kill it in early summer/late spring. As stated before, nothing you can do now. I like barricade as a pre-emergent in bermuda but it is expensive if you have a big lawn.

Considered a weed here, but it's what's planted on the greens at Pebble Beach.

Roundup while Bermuda is dormant. Problem solved

I use it on mine. Seems to do better in years that I stick to it.
