Diesel and Remedy

Though I've found its easier to basal spray the yaupon with the diesel / remedy mixture while it's still standing and let it die and start to break down. Then I'll push it over with a tractor and drag it to the burn pile
This is our solution of last resort because a significant number of members are averse to spraying a bunch of diesel everywhere. We're testing some herbicides that do not require an oil carrier, and if we can find one that is effective, we'll run with it. In the mean time, next time I go out there I'm going to use my truck to pull out any yaupon I can get close enough to or use a comealong and the nearest tree to do it.

This is 30 acres of land that has not been adequately managed and maintained for quite some time.
Carefully applying the Remedy/diesel mix to the trunk of a yaupon is hardly "spraying a bunch of diesel everywhere".
And as Remedy ain't cheap, careful application is even more of the rule....but the success rate is outstanding.

Edited to add: Remedy Ultra is vegetable oil based, so if diesel is to be avoided, buy the cheapest vegetable oil, for the dilution factor.

We get at least one, sometimes two, years of use with the basic 1 or 2 gallon pump sprayer, we use our red diesel and Remedy, primarily on honey locust and huisache.

If diesel just isn't an option, id try remedy, water, and surfactant and see what it does. If that doesn't do it, cut it and spray the same mix on the cut of each stump. Finally, if that doesn't work, paint the cut stump with a small amount of 100% remedy. That will kill anything. And a heck of a lot easier than pulling it.

Tractor supply is carrying a dewalt brand pump up sprayer that I like better than the cheapos.

I should clarify that it's primarily just an aversion to spraying diesel at all on the property. I appreciate the additional information that should make it a better sell. Ultimately it will probably end up being me doing the application, anyway. All the other volunteers limit their handling of the yaupon to just trimming it back because it's easier for them and they get to see some sort of "instant" result.

ETA: What are the ramifications of any overspray? Much of the yaupon is growing around the base of mature trees. Do we run the risk of killing them with minor overspray that hits the ground?

Buddy of mine got a couple of goats for a new property. He would tie them from tree to tree until all the problem plants were eaten. They had poison ivy everywhere and those damn goats at it up to the roots, along with everything else.

Great idea, got me thinkin about doin the same thing

That's the cool thing about cut stump treatment - nearly 100% effective and only about 3 or 4 tablespoons of diesel gets used per plant. its great exercise cutting them off, and when you leave the cut plants in place they protect good plants trying to establish.
It only took me a year to figure out this place is nuts!

I have sprayed multiple gallons and as long as you're careful to not hit tree roots you should be fine. I haven't had any unintended kills with just being careful and keeping my spray where I want it.
