I know he helped me and thousands of others understand everything from grass, weeds and how to take care of that stuff around the flower bed.

OUR BELOVED RANDY LEMMON HAS PASSED AWAY
Randy Lemmon, Houston radio host of the GardenLine program on NewsRadio 740 KTRH, died last night. He passed away at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City of complications due to a stroke. He was surrounded by his loving family.
For 27 years, Randy Lemmon hosted the GardenLine radio show, during which he shared all sorts of tips, tricks and serious science for handling this area's unique climate. He was faithfully followed by serious landscapers as well as the weekend gardener as he shared his enthusiasm and advice about lawns, gardens and outdoor living. He was a go-to expert when climate issues became serious or dangerous to the public such as during hurricanes and deep freezes.
Before his radio career, Randy spent years as a television and radio producer for the Texas Farm Bureau. He then spent nearly a decade at his alma mater, Texas A&M University, producing news and commentary for an agricultural network he created with the College of Agriculture. One of his responsibilities was producing the R.C. Slocum show.
Randy authored four books on everything from fertilizer schedules to the 10 commandments of mulch. Over the past few years, in addition to his radio program, Randy shared his passion and expertise with homeowners throughout the Gulf Coast region through his company, Randy Lemmon Consulting.
He was born Randal Scott Lemmon on January 4, 1962 in Whittier, California to Richard "Dick" Lemmon and Phyllis Lemmon. The family moved to Houston where Randy attended Robert E. Lee High school and went on to Texas A&M University where he graduated in 1984 with a BS degree in Journalism. While at Texas A&M he lived in Moses Hall. Later while working for the University's College of Agriculture, Randy earned a Master of Science in Agriculture degree.
In addition to Randy's passion for all things growing, he was known for his sense of humor, his cooking skills, and his passion for Aggie football and Astros baseball. Randy also enjoyed other hobbies including concerts, disc golf, racquetball and Broadway shows. He was a devoted father to his son, Randal, and his daughter Selena. He was completely supportive of their activities including Randal's competitive tennis and Selena's growing music success.
Randy was predeceased by his parents and his uncle, Tommy Lemmon. Randy was married for 22 years to Yvonne Lemmon, and is survived by Yvonne and their children, Randal, 21 and Selena, 16. He is also survived by his sister, Terri Langer (Ron) and his Sister-in-laws, Jennifer Spriggs (Kevin) and Melissa Salce (Joab), as well as nieces; Lindsey Langer, Lauren Langer, Jessica Spriggs, Jamie Spriggs, Paighton Salce, and nephews Preston Salce and Parker Salce. He's also survived by his aunt Janelle and Ron Stokes and their two sons, Conner and Reid.

Damn. I never listened to his show but watched several of his videos and read several of his articles. I know he was an incredible resource for a lot of people.

Sad to hear.

Dang. Just guessing based on him being '84 that he was only 60 or so.

The last day or so they were posting memory photos on Facebook and before that the posts were of a more passive voice not how he usually posted on the page. I wonder when the stroke occurred.

Apparently today was actually his birthday 1/4/62

Man I got a good work friend barely hanging on at an Alabama hospital right now. 62 and had a major heart attack Jan 2. Fortunately he knew he wasn't feeling right and went to the hospital. Had a widow maker in the parking lot. The only reason he is still alive is his neighbor who took him is a nurse who recognized what was happening, gave him an asprin, and forced him in the car

Really good dude and a great people manager. I would guess he managed directly or indirectly 10,000 different employees in his career. Just retired over Christmas break.

Getting older sucks.

NO AMNESTY!

in order for democrats, liberals, progressives et al to continue their illogical belief systems they have to pretend not to know a lot of things; by pretending "not to know" there is no guilt, no actual connection to conscience. Denial of truth allows easier trespass.

Still have my printout of his calendar that I've been following the last couple of years.

Crazy, isn't there some statistic about an increase in heart attacks over the holidays?

I think he was going to be pushing a new (or revised) book this spring....might have to pick up a copy of that now.

Saturday/Sunday mornings in the truck won't be the same for me.

Randy was a fish bud from Moses and a great guy. His light in this world was far reaching and I pray his family finds some comfort in all the folks he has helped and touched in his life.

I thought it was heart attacks and strokes due to stress. My father in law went down on 1/1/12 with a stroke that has made him in need of constant care since then.

I am only 5 months older than him. Way to young for a stroke. Always enjoyed his Garden line show. I have used his calendar for my yard for many years. If y'all don't use the calendar, you should . It is spot on for a beautiful yard. Going to miss him. Prayers sent for his wife and family.

Hearing Michael Berry announce that Randy had passed away was a gut punch. Never met Randy but he was someone I listened too for years and I do not even garden or landscape. Just loved his vast knowledge of all plants.
