Ravelco ANTI-THEFT plug install on my truck next week at Buc-cees. Is this guy legit?

Company out of Houston will meet me in Waller to install this thing for $700. I'm good with motorhead casual billing, but now that the guy wants me to write him a personal check made out to his name, and the fact that the install pic looks like its going to get knocked off, I'm having second thoughts.

Maybe I'll take my chances taking my truck to STX hunting in a couple weeks. It will be parked at the ranch and we don't plan on driving into town.

What say you OB?

Dave just called and left a vmail for me to confirm that they absolutely don't take credit cards. Odd that if they have been in business for 46 years, once cannot make a check out to the company name and still wanting it made out to the owners name.

Get cash from your bank and pay in cash. Most banks will not let you cash a check made out to a business. However, they will let you cash one made out to the person. The guy simply wants cash so he doesn't have to report it. And he doesn't want cards for the same reason.

Exactly my point. Hard to want to do business with folks already pushing the ethics mark. If they cheat the taxes, why wouldn't they cheat the customer?

Also, not really warm and fuzzy about anti theft being installed in a gas station parking lot. This whole thing is wierd to me.

I had one installed a few years ago. It was a guy that did it as a side gig and worked out of his van. I was concerned a little at first about there only being a phone number and no address. But not many options in this area and he was the closest, still 4 hrs away though. He offered to meet halfway somewhere. I ended up just paying him an extra 50 bucks to come to my house. Went well, haven't regretted putting it on the truck.

My installer from New Braunfels came to my house in Boerne did the install in about an hour and half. I wrote the check out to him. Great guy and great experience.

If it's the number for your area from the Revelco site it is legit .. did they ask you to answer all questions about your location and vehicle via email?

I just had one put on a vehicle, I called my area number and they sent and email and then came to the office and put it on

I had your same concerns. I went for it anyway and had one installed in Spring 2-3 weeks ago. Same installation group as yours I think. The website definitely puts out the sketchy vibe. The website, the cash/personal check, the whole schtick. I saw all the great Google reviews and the TexAgs auto board gave the thumbs up so I did it.

Follow their instructions to a T. Have your phone on you on the install day. Answer calls/texts from unknown numbers bc it's probably the installer. Reply to their email asap when they send out the email confirmation to schedule. Then just pay cash or write a personal check. They don't ask for payment until the work is done and they walk you through the installation.

I've been burned in the past like everyone else but the experience was great. Installer was right on time. Did the job well, explained everything to me, and now my F250 isn't going to get stolen by some low life while I'm working in Houston or Austin. I loathe thieves. As hard as I have worked and continue to work for my family, some scum bag thinks they can just help themselves to my property and send it across the border to run drugs and use it for human trafficking? Forget that. So I had to deal w a little sketchy vibe to prevent that from ever happening, it was worth it.

Be sure to get them to put their stickers in both your front window corners. Those alone will deter a lot of thieves.

Yeah maybe you should just pay him 50 percent more and then he could pay income tax, self employment tax, and 8.25 percent sales tax.
That's where all the taxes get paid ultimately- by the consumer. So 50 percent more would be 1,050 instead of 700 CASH.

The Ravelco website specifically says to call them if you have questions. They don't honor warranties from the unlicensed installs. They'll be able to tell you if the guy is one of theirs or some reseller.

Yeah. I got to know Vinnie when I was a kid as racing RC cars. He was an entertaining dude for sure. No one spent more money to make sure his car would go fast but break every time and not finish the race.

Decades later in adult softball I ended up in the same league with his son Jimmy. He confirmed they hated Raynor Noble

They weren't going to come to CS for 1 vehicle and once I added my second, they changed from meeting halfway at Buc-ees to my house in CS.

The installer said that if one is willing to wait, they will put you on a list for when another CS job comes up and they can hit 2 or 3.

Had them scheduled the week before Christmas here in New Braunfels. Guy called the day I was scheduled and said he was running behind and would have to re-schedule.
