I have been thinking about picking up a Smith & Wesson M&P45 M2.0 but I am not married to this particular pistol. I have gift cards that will cover the cost so looking for something less than $800.00.

I EDC a 1911 and am very happy with that so this would probably be in the truck when commuting or traveling as well as just shooting for fun. As I said, I am not married to this pistol but I am wanting to stay with a .45 since I already have a lot of ammo.

I would be interested to hear from anyone with experience (good or bad) with this pistol or thoughts on something else similar.

In typical OB fashion I will ignore your budget and browse other options to utilize your gift cards...

So when you get a suppressor you have a host ready to go. Will save you from having to buy another gun.

No direct personal experience, but my best friend is an LEO/SWAT officer in Alabama. He used to carry a 1911 but it was too heavy and he was worried about his nicer guns getting beat up so he switch to this exact gun.

He seems to love it. Last time I visited him he took me to their range and I fired it and many others he has. It's a great gun. Good luck either way with your choice.

You're doing gift cards wrong... if you have $800 in gift cards that means you can buy something for $1600 at half price.

You're welcome!

I use the strategy of buy and and test it later. You will like it and if not there is always another one at the store.

Consider a Tisas 1911

Sounds like you're trying too hard to find something to use gift cards on; therefore, I'd wait for something that really hooks you a bit more.

Not to bag on it, but it's an M&P .45...utilitarian and doesn't really move the needle much, so you'll probably forget you bought it a month from now (you said talk you out of it ).

OB never disappoints!

To be clear, I said talk me out of buying THIS gun.

I am definitely buying A gun!

Also, I definitely considered a more entry level 1911 since all my mags etc. would interchange but wondering if a cheaper 1911 would have reliability issues??

Don't do it. At least get one over $1000, preferably $1500-1600 minimum to avoid any " cheap 1911 issues". Though they are discontinued you can still probably find a Springfield TRP. Mine has been rock solid for the 10 or so years I've shot the hell out of it.

Not necessarily a problem. I bought a Tisas 1911 last month and it was only $330. I put like 35 rounds through it a few weeks ago with no issues so far. Not a long term test but it is very nice for the price. Would I trust my life with it for law enforcement or combat? Not sure, but I got it as mostly a range toy.

ETA: I think my Springfield XD-M 9mm is a higher quality pistol than the Tisas 1911. This is fair since I paid $582 for the XD-M back in 2011. But it is not a night and day difference.

I carried S&W M&P Pro 1.0 for years in .40. Very happy with it. Prefer it over my Glock 17 in every way with exception of the trigger.

You can clean it up a little with an Apex trigger but I still think my Glock stock trigger is better. Probably going to be a big difference for you coming off a 1911 trigger especially if its been customized.

Enjoy.
