No one asked if you cared.

You asked. Was answered.

Good point we should focus on keeping them off the road or less than the threat that they are.

I do very much keep in mind that a good guy(s) with a gun is just as much a threat in my draw no draw course of action process and my back to concealed time is quite fast as well for this reason.

Asks question, gets logical answer, says I don't care, and asks the question again. Not sure it is worth wasting time with this one.

I'm still irked that I shot a 249/250. Pulled one friggin shot at the 15 yard range and hit the 9 ring.

Yes. And so is the 8.
trying to understand how they got to 249 by hitting the 9. Seems like that would take hitting the 7
I went by what the instructor said. Pulled one shot, hit the 9 ring. He said, "well, you got 249/250, safe to say you passed"

The LTC test is absolutely useless for actual concealed carry. I wish they would drastically revamp it for concealed carry. Draw from a holster, draw from concealment and time.

I get the sentiment, but I disagree.

Govt standards will never be good, fair or useful. If theres going to be a test (and there shouldnt be one), it should be insanely easy, like it is now.

Becoming an actual competent human with a handgun is on the individual.
So how do we compel them to be competent?
I and my family are out in public with these people.
You've been out in public with those people since 1995. Have they shot you yet? You'll be even more horrified to learn people can carry a gun in TX now with no license or required training. We haven't had a rash of negligent discharges in public over the last 27 years.

In reality....long before that.

You are also out in public with bad guys with guns as well. And soccer moms driving 2500 lb machines that can kill, and teenagers driving, and a million other things that can and do kill orders of magnitude more than a CHL holder that hasn't gone through whatever arbitrary training and competency regimen that you think they should.

The guy that did mine had us do rapid fire shots, some reloads, etc. - wasn't all just standing at a line shooting. Wasn't clearing a room or John Wick stuff either, but more than just normal shooting.

I think he's in prison now, so there's that though.

One reason

No wait time at ffl.

B. If pulled over the fuzz can see you are have ltc and may cut you a break.

D. cause you really like hearing texas law shield advertisement and having some schmo tell you stories that are semi made up.

1. dont buy from ffl…. dont need govnt permission. All good no need to talk myself out of a random gun charge for just runnin down the road… not trying to start a big ol debate…. just trying to understand the op
We all aren't badasses like you though.

1. As stated, you are already deemed "pass" on the BG check, so that's nice
2. Reciprocity for carrying in other states should you choose to do so. Now I'm assuming your response to this is that you never travel to other states
3. Second form of government ID that is legally recognized. I'm assuming you are going to tell us that you don't have an ID at all, because F the government and all that jazz.
4. As stated earlier, it 100% makes a difference in the rare times I get pulled over. Only once have I actually received a ticket since I got my CHL/LTC. Now I assume you are going to tell us how you never get pulled over because you are so awesome and such a badass

You don't want one? More power to you. But you asked what are some reasons and there are 4 very valid reasons stated above.

My last renewal was so boring that I shot 100% weak handed and finished every series on a non-scoring head or dick shot. The instructor had to cock a nickel plated .357 for an old woman who could barely raise the gun - I kid you not and for every single shot - and passed her. The entire group was terrified to stand anywhere near her. This was at Carter's Country in Spring. It's a joke.

Don't sweat it. The guy In the bay next to me actually hit my target a few times. He passed
So you're saying you scored over 250?

Eta: on a personal level you could try making fun of every chl holder you know who isnt shooting competitions and taking classes (if you're doing more than the bare minimum yourself). If their "training" starts and ends with the state mandated hours and telling people "ive been shooting for 20 years!"….yeah….those guys arent as good as they think they are. Mockery among friends is always good for personal development. ;-)

Quoting myself here for a second because I just finished day 1 of a 2 day pistol class.

I know some people assume competition/training classes is all vetbros and larpers wearing 5.11 pants and dont want to participate because its lame and "tacticool".

The students in todays class: 20s to 60s, men and women, office professionals, teacher, retiree, college professor, cop, doctor, etc. For some it was one of their first classes, for others, one of many. All learning and becoming more competent shooters together.

If you're a gun owner and you can't find a single weekend to get out and learn from some of the world class instructors who travel all over the US teaching ordinary people like you and me how to be more capable armed citizens…you're doing yourself a serious disservice.
Not to shamelessly rep the school I am an instructor for, but KR Training segments most classes into 3 or 4 hour classes that don't even require an entire day, much less an entire weekend. To your point though, it isn't hard to find some training, if you so desire to become part of the 1% that actually gets formal instruction after getting your LTC. I have the same experience with students in our classes... men and women from their 20s to their 70s, in street clothes for the most part.

On the topic of the LTC test... I passed it with my eyes closed earlier this year, literally, just to confirm my suspicion that it was possible. It's not a marksmanship test, it's a test to see whether or not you can send rounds in the general direction of your target without muzzling yourself or someone else on the firing line, and you know how to make your gun go bang.

Don't mind you shamelessly repping the school you teach at, just wish you had classes on weekends that were available. Seems very few on the weekends and lots during the week. Have been trying to get into some of the pistol and rifle classes to never find one open. That being said, it is actually tough to find decent classes that aren't in other states or that are affordable. Have taken four classes at the two gun ranges near me and have left them with minimal new knowledge and no desire to take any additional classes at either place. Hoping to find some decent ones soon.
