Deer not eating wheat this year (West Texas)

So on our lease we have 2 very large wheat fields. Every year, for the 11 years we've been on, you can glass the fields every morning and see deer everywhere hammering the wheat, especially when it just starts to grow. This year, for some reason, we haven't seen a single deer eating the wheat whatsoever. On another stand you can glass the neighbors wheat field, and same thing: not a single deer all year has been eating the wheat. We have plenty of deer everywhere else. The wheat is green and looks great, no difference in appearance, but the deer aren't eating it.

Anybody smarter than me have any idea why this is?

I don't know. They're still hitting the wheat hard where we hunt

If you have enough rain to sprout wheat, you likely have enough soil moisture to sprout other weeds and forbs that deer like. Or their feeding at night.

Here in east Tx they are hammering the acorns. We have a bumper crop this year. Not touching wheat or corn.

Not in west texas, but our place has been completely shutoff for the last 3 weeks or so. Just starting to see deer back on the food plot and feeders. It's acorns but they've also been feeding on natural browse that is coming up

Think we had a bit of a false spring. Lot's of broadleafs that didn't grow this spring and summer due to drought in the seed bank that came up with the rain.

saw the biggest mule deer buck i've ever seen on my neighbor's wheat this morning in Briscoe Cty. The two others that were inside of 20 inches were of course on the line of corn i put out this morning.

OP - go look and see if the tips of the wheat have been picked off. my guess is you'll see plenty of the tips eaten and deer hoof prints everywhere. they are nocturnal already at your place.

It's all those people from Austin moving to west Texas. They've convinced the deer to go gluten free

They seem to be in the wheat in Shackelford County more this year than in the last 3 or 4 years.

We are seeing the exact same thing. I have multiple places to hunt with wheat on them this year and not seeing ANY deer on them. It is unbelievable. I've checked the edges on several and not seeing any tracks on the fields either. I am seeing a lot of green forbs in the pastures so assuming they just don't need to come out on the wheat.
