I have tried most of the major brands and have settled on the GreenGo feeders, made in Brownwood, TX. They are a "stand and fill type," available in multiple capacities. I've been using the 800lb version. There are several reasons why I personally think they are the best I've seen so far.
https://jandlsales.com/greengo-feedersFeeders like ASF have a lid with a short skirt that is held in place by spring clips. I've had those lids blow off on multiple occasions, even under the spring clip tension, so I've had to ratchet strap them down. GreenGo's lids have a welded hinge with welded chain keeper and clamp loops when closed, so the lid isn't going anywhere, won't leak, and won't blow off from strong west TX winds.
Unlike most brands, only the motor and spinner is down below the hopper. The timer and battery is held in a box compartment right under the lid. It isn't built into the lid like the Ranch King, it's in a welded box right at the rim under the lid. The wires to the motor are inside a rigid steel square tube leading down to the motor, so there's no exposed wires anywhere. The solar panel is just outside the hopper wall from the timer and batt box, so there's no exposed wires there either. There are reinforcing welded cross-members inside the feed box in an "x" pattern that increase rigidity of the box. The whole thing is made of completely seam welded heavy gauge steel. Under the motor/spinner plate is a V-shaped angle plate that causes all the corn close to the spinner to slide outside the varmint cage after it throws. The skids and support legs are very beefy. The varmint cage around the motor and spinner is very robust, and you'll never even need to open it unless somehow the motor fails because the timer and 12v battery is up top in its own separate compartment.
The whole thing is very heavily built, better built than most, and it's priced 30-50% less than all the other "super premium," heavy duty feeders it competes with. From what I've seen, the price is close to the capacity. I paid $850 for my 800# capacity GreenGo feeders.
Like all the other top of the line feeders, it too uses, "The Timer," which is the most reliable timer unit available, and it uses the same 12v high torque motor as the rest.
All of the super heavy duty, premium feeders out there are good; I just think the GreenGo hits the "sweet spot" between smart design and reasonable price for the build quality and capacity you get.
The only downside to them is you don't find them available in as many dealers as some of the other brands.
